DRUGS IN PARADISE
• Marijuana
• Often grown by the inhabitants
• Some times imported from
neighboring Countries.
• It is the Caribbean…

• Cocaine
• Usage growing
• Nearby to cocaine drug routes
• Drug problems in neighboring
countries starting to spill over.
DRUG LAWS
Both Cocaine and Marijuana are considered illegal Belize. Jail
time can be sentenced even based on possession of a few
grams.

• If you are caught with large quantities a SWAT like team can
come and seize it.

• Smaller quantities are often handled by local police. Local

police, however, can sometimes be bought off.
DRUG LAWS
• Due to the small size and
population, Belize doesn’t
have many issues with other
forms of drugs (i.e. Opioids,
pharmaceuticals, etc.)
• It does still have drug laws
comparable to the US.
• Alcohol is legal and used a
lot. Drinking age is 18, but
not strictly enforced.
REHAB CENTERS
The country itself does not sponsor rehabilitation centers. But, due
to its location and tropical environment there are a couple of
private rehabilitation centers for alcoholics and other addicts.
These are in the more touristy areas of the country.

REMAR (REHABILITATION AND REINSERTION OF

SOCIALLY REJECTED PEOPLE)
a non governmental organization, legally
instituted and founded in 1,982 in Spain and
working in Belize since 1,997 [2]
PREVENTION PROGRAMS
Up until recently the country had no drug prevention programs. In
response to the growing drug use/trade from neighboring
influences the country developed The National Drug Abuse Control
Council of Belize, NDACC-Belize.
Some prevention initiatives have been implemented focusing on
younger generations. (Red Ribbon Week) But prevention programs
are still relatively new to the country.
