FALL-2019
You should break your project down into at least 60 activities. There should be parallel paths and
no single path should be more than 25 activities long. To achieve fast tracking, use other
relationships in your precedence diagram besides the FS relationship.
Requirement:
Upon completion of this project you are required to submit a report to top management of your
company comprising of the items given below.
Requirement Considerations:
1. Use a planning software such as Microsoft Project or Primavera Project Planner for
developing the construction schedule. (Note that Software is to be learnt by students’
them self. The instructors can share few learning aids only.)
2. The project report should preferably be in the form of computer printout, consisting also
of a soft copy of the project work on a CD.

Step 2:
Using compiled project data and assumptions made, develop/procure a detailed quantity estimate
for the project.
Step 3:
Define concisely the project scope statement of given project (use template below).

Step 4:
Develop and rationalize a WBS for given project.

Step 5:
Outline a proposed construction scheme, keeping into view the various types of works involved
and your fast-tracking approach. work items should be taken and discussed with respect to their
sequence and overlaps. Develop a preliminary construction schedule for given project. This should
follow directly from your proposed construction scheme. A bar chart representation should be
made.
Step 6:
Develop an activity list for the given project. Use the WBS and BOQ to develop the list. Include
supervision activity(ies) as well.

Step 9:
Based on the quantity of work, number of resource teams on each activity and resource team
productivities; calculate the duration for each activity. Using the information for activity duration,
modify the Bar Chart in Step 5 above.

Step 10:
Identify the external and internal dependencies in the given project. Distinguish the dependencies
as either mandatory or discretionary. Apply fast-tracking technique to use more efficient activity
dependencies. Identify any constraints on any activity(ies).

Step 12:
Input all data (activity list, duration, links) in the selected software to do time planning. Schedule
the project on the software. Use the current data date.
Step 13:
Generate Project Gantt Chart, CPM Diagram and other needed tables/ views/ charts.
Step 14:
Define Project Resource Pool Table – resources needed on the project and their details. Develop a
table including Resource Description, Units, Limits, Resource Calendars, Unit/ Lump Sum Costs.

Step 15:
Allocate resource to each activity. With aid of software, assign resources (with their attributes) to
activities so as to develop Resource/ Cost Allocation Table. The table should include Resource
Description, Resource Type, Resource Curve, Units per Time Period, Budgeted Quantity,
Resource Lag and Duration, Activity Direct Cost.

Step 16:
Based on the software results, develop a resource profile for planned work for (a) the whole project,
(b) key resources (one equipment resource, one material resource and one labor resource).
Step 17:
Identify and estimate Project Overheads. Identify contractor profit and taxes on the project. Input
the cost data in the software and get the project cash outflow curve for planned work (cost profile).
