Project 2: Optimization
Real world problems, I cannot express how difficult the first project was. The first project
addressed Marketing which I work in Marketing more specifically programmatic marketing and
have never used those types of calculations or equations. I can imagine this is more for
algorithms for the back end and stocks etc. I have tried numerous times to work through story
problems and always seem to get stuck or get even more confused than when I started. I have
done everything you can think of numerous videos seeing other people’s examples and
I am focusing on the second project which I feel I had a much better understanding. We
focused primarily on using elimination and parabolas. As I mentioned earlier this could be used
in the real world, I know my professor mentioned using it for and enterprise or a larger
corporation which makes sense. Currently at my position and work level I do use quite a bit of
math, but not to this extent mainly basic math. Aside from large corporations’ people who work
with budgets or just like to play out big purchases or financial changes (job loss, promotion etc.)
It may not be this complex. They actually might benefit using the linear graph instead of
parabolas to see how their finances are performing or if they are budgeting correctly or going to
Working in the business world sticking to budget is always important, you want to make
sure you are getting your money’s worth and also not overspending. In order to keep a business
thriving we have to make sure we are spending in the right places and if we do over spend how
can we compensate. Yes, there are times that we need to overspend, but how can we make any
money if we do it all the time? We need to be grossing more than we are spending.
The Assignment did change my views, I mean I do work in the marketing work and I
can’t recall using this in specific, but I also know that there are other fields out there that require
much more extensive formulas. I would assume that just about everyone that is an enterprise has
a computer that makes the calculations. We need to avoid human error somehow. I would guess
that there would be someone there to cross check the information, such as doctors and nurses for
instance. Doctors are not always with the patient they are bound to make an error we are human
this happens. I have heard numerous stories with nurses saving the day and coming through and
fixing measurements or dosages of medication either because the doctors handwriting was
illegible or simply because they made a mistake. This is life changing stuff!
