Assignment 3

2.6.1 Information and Communication Technology (ICT). Implement teaching strategies for using ICT
to expand curriculum learning opportunities for students.

Lesson chosen: Enhancing listening skills

Technology Incorporation: Kahoot Quiz, You tube song playlist.

To link the learnings of this subject to the Graduate teaching standard 2.6.1, I have chosen to
incorporate a lesson plan for IELTS/ PTE coaching that I am involved with. I have chosen the section of
‘Listening’ to both incorporate and implement technology for a better understanding of the content
learned for “English listening skills”.

The following screenshots are taken from the lesson plan I use to allow students to strategize their
attempts in the exam while attempting multiple-choice questions.

This lesson was the assessment of students regarding their listening skills. The lesson required them
to attempt a Kahoot Quiz. It was a multiple-choice quiz with a focus on popular songs. The students
were made to listen to a verse of the song from a playlist created and were then asked to attempt
each question. The question required them to choose the correct response out of four options.

students to listen to before they attempted the quiz on
Kahoot.

Feedback and reflection

Using Kahoot made me incorporate technology in a unique manner to coach students in attempting
the English exam. Kahoot enabled me to compare data of all the students attempting the test and
gave me an idea about how far ahead has the student progressed with the lessons until the quiz is
attempted. Also, requisite changes were made over a period of time for further lessons depending
upon the result obtained by the students.

Using songs as a way to enhance listening skills has been a popular method amongst the teachers for
quite a while now. But instead of the response being verbal, it is now technologically aided. Since the
test that the students finally give for their English language skills assessment is computer-based, using
Kahoot as a way to answer model questions strengthens the confidence of a student attempting the
test.

3.4.1 Select and use resources. Demonstrate knowledge of a range of resources,

including ICT, that engage students in their learning.
Lesson Chosen: Business Cycle and Total Output
Resources: PPT for lesson content, Internet and computer devices for research.

Standard 3.4.1 was achieved during my practicum at Chifley High School, Mount Druitt. The lesson
selected to display the achieving of this standard is ‘Business cycle and its effect on Total Output’. A
power point presentation was displayed on the smart board to engage students with the content of
the lesson. All the instructions related to the completion of lesson activities were mentioned on the
slides to avoid verbal repetition.

One of the activities in the lesson plan involved doing research by the student on the internet and
filling a worksheet based on their research thereafter. The students were asked to attempt this activity
in groups of two students.

Students were supposed to research about a website that has ‘economic’ data from all the countries
of the world. They were supposed to research this data based on various economic indicators like per
capita income, purchasing parity, population etc

Based on what the students could find they were supposed to draw conclusions about the economic
conditions in Australia and the students had to present their findings as a group to the whole class.

Student collaboration seemed really effective for this activity as it was different from the traditional
activities they were used to in class. It helped them condition their team skills and enabled them to
think critically.

It also increased the levels of teacher engagement in class and I could give active feedback to the
students regarding the pedagogies students were applying while attempting the worksheet and during
their presentations.

The students were required to fill an activity sheet as below:
