Subject: Pension Scheme for Widows in India

Respected Madam,

This is in continuation to our previous submission regarding the plight of widowed

women in the country. We had submitted that the welfare schemes of the Govt. have in
place the provision of widow pension for the women after the death of husband. Certain
procedural problems are observed in the smooth implementation of these schemes. The
widow of the deceased is required to get certified certain details from competent
authorities. The death certificate carries the name of the deceased, name of his father and
home address. These details are not considered sufficient by the competent authorities for
issuing pension payment orders because the name of the wife is not written in the death
certificate. To resolve the problem faced by the widows of the deceased, it is proposed
that the good practice of writing the name the wife in the death certificate of the deceased
be put in use. Further the pension amount should be paid through their respective bank
accounts to avoid its illegal interception by panchayat people.

A news paper clipping is enclosed for your perusal. It depicts that the people in power do
not care about the problems of the widows and rather exploit the situation.
Therefore an early action in the matter is requested.

With Warm Regards,
