Inside Holly Hills Learning Center

Dull, Plain, beige walls greet you as you enter Holly Hills Early Learning Center. The

smell of Clorox mixed with pee is faint when walking in. Hearing the sound of children laughing

while getting closer to the front desk the laughter fades. Walking back towards the classroom

thinking of the colors, decorations, and pictures that can transform this space. Children need a

variety of colors to stimulate their minds and fill their imagination. While visiting Holly Hills

Learning Center improvements should consist of suitable food options for students, multicolored

walls and Improved lighting.

Walking into the kitchen staring at the snack menu posted on the left side of the wall:

peppers and ranch dip; cucumbers and cheddar cheese rice crisp. Realizing they feed these

distasteful snacks to their students. Students will toss out the food they do not enjoy; which can

be a waste of money for the school. Although Holly Hills Learning Center has to follow federal

food guidelines, they can make more appealing food selections the students will enjoy. That way

students do not leave school feeling famished and, the school does not waste money. Changing

the food by preparing exciting foods such as pancakes cut in the shape of mickey mouse ears or,

baby carrots cut in the shape of flowers. Making the food tasteful for the students while also

following the federal food guidelines can be completed while making it enjoyable to the

students.

Walking through the classrooms standing in the middle of the floor. The outside needs

improving. The first thing students notice is the dim, flickering or, in some cases, missing lights.

Faint lighting makes the school look gloomy; students will not be excited to learn. Adding

fluorescent or LED light bulbs will brighten up the school and classrooms and make the

environment more inviting for the students. Switching to LED lights can save money for the

school. Having dim or lights missing from your school will make the students drained and they

will not be focused on learning. Making your environment brighter will change how students

view school. The students will want to come inside and not be tired when all they see are bright

lights.

The walls a sandy white color with paint flakes chipped from the plain white wall. The

paint was old like it has not been painted in years. Walking left of the front desk there was a

small plain blackboard that read “October” with decorations of black fake glittery spiders. The

board had a list of important dates in the shape of white clouds, but that was it. There was

nothing special or, exciting to make it stand out. Printing the dates in bold font on colorful paper

such as yellow and red. Making the board more noticeable with those colors will grab the

attention of the students. Students will pay attention to the board when it has Vibrant colors and

is in different shapes. Starring at the walls they got lighter and more paint came off. Painting the

walls colors such as cadmium yellow, dark red, and electric blue. Changing the wall colors of the

classrooms will get students to notice the classroom more. The students will be excited, to come

into the classroom when seeing vibrant colors on the wall. Adding student artwork to the wall or,

pictures of the students will make the classroom one of a kind. students do not want to walk into

a dull learning environment, seeing colors will welcome in students.

After visiting Holly Hills Learning Center improving the food, the lighting, and, the dull

walls of the school will make the school look cleaner. Incorporating new food choices will allow

the students to enjoy their meals and be excited to eat their snack. Switching to LED lighting Can

save Holly Hills Learning Center money. The school can use the money for other school needs.

Switching to LED lights will make the school brighter and, the children will be walking into a

bright school. Changing the wall colors of the classroom will also make the school bright. The

walls will send a message of fun with the colorful walls. Contributing the children’s artwork to
