Research Description

Our entry is about the barriers that Jackie Robinson broke by playing in

the MLB. In 1946, Jackie Robinson was able to break the color barrier by getting

signed to the Brooklyn Dodgers, and for being the first black professional MLB

player. Robbinson had Social, Political, and Economic effects on America by

breaking the color barrier,he protested against racism, & invested in companies

to help poor african americans. We got the idea for this topic because we wanted

to do something sports related and Jackie Robbinson seemed like a good idea

for our topic. We ended up participating in History Day because we were forced

to participate because our history class and teacher required us to participate.

We found a majority of our secondary sources on our libraries database

sites like world book there were a few sources that we got just by searching for

things on the internet such as history.com and blackpast.org. To find our primary
sources we mainly searched for quotes from jackie robinson and images of him

on the internet we also got some from our library databases like ABC-CLIO. Our

most valuable sources were World book and History.com because that's where

we got most of our information about Jackie Robinson and the things he did from

these two sources. Our ideas about this topic didn't really change. We chose to

put what we thought was most important. We put our entry together by writing the

parts of the website in a doc then putting them on to the site. Some problems we

overcame was that the weebly site was not working for a while but we were able

to get it to work.

Our topic relates to the National History Day topic of Breaking Barriers

because Jackie Robionson was the first colored MLB player and that broke the

color barrier in professional sports. It's important to study this topic so the same

things don’t happen again with future sports. It relates to change in history

because it caused the desegregation of professional sports. This was a valuable

learning experience because we learned about segregation in the past and how it

was overcome.
