Bahasa Inggris dan ‘soft skill’ dengan pendekatan Kurikulum Perguruan Tinggi
 Penelitian dan pengabdian yang relevan dengan kebutuhan masyarakat Indonesia.

Course Description
This course highlights the skills of presentation for students’ research. This covers the
presentation of a source in a certain format, preparation of visual aids, and stages to plan,
orally present, and review a research report.
Specific Objectives (hard-skills)
Students are expected to be able to:
• create an academic presentation (a formal presentation, namely a presentation of a
research study) using the basic patterns of an effective presentation
• deliver and defense their research study
• answer and ask questions (as panelists) concerning a research report presentation
• and understanding basic principles of citation and referencing1
Specific Objectives (soft-skills)
Students are able to:
• internalize the values and norms of academic conducts (show a commitment to never
cheat or plagiarize).
• Respect different cultures, views, religions and beliefs, others’ original opinions and
innovations (show a commitment to not discredit nor give negative comments to a
certain race, language, culture, and religion, use proper language in expressing their
opinions, listen and pay attention to others’ opinions, use proper language when
criticizing others’ opinions.
• Work together and possess social awareness towards the society and environment
(contribute actively in completing group works, reinforce a conducive classroom
atmosphere, for example, by always paying attention to peers’ presentation and
teacher’s explanation or by never causing any disturbance).

Grading System
The students' final grade is based on the following components:
• APA citation and quotation (14%) – 10% hard-skill + 4% soft-skill
• APA referencing (19%) – 15% hard-skill + 4% soft-skill
• Visual aids (14%) - – 10% hard-skill + 4% soft-skill
• Research report analysis (14%) – 10% hard-skill + 4% soft-skill
• Thesis proposal defense simulation and panelist (39%) – 35% hard-skill + 4% soft-skill
Grading
• A : 85 – 100
• AB : 80 - 84.9
• BA : 75 – 79.9
• B : 70 – 74.9
• BC : 65 – 69.9
• CB : 60 - 64.9
• C : 55 - 59.9
• D : 30 - 54.9 (or absence more than 4 times)
• Lower than D means fail

Some additional rules

• Minimum attendance: 75%.

• Maximum Absence: 25% or 4 times

• More than 4 times absences: FAIL / D

• The absence include the LATENESS. Lateness tolerance = 15 minutes. Coming late
more than 15 minutes, students are still allowed to come to the class but cannot sign the
attendance.
• Absence more than 4 times will need a Headed Letter or a Doctor Consent
• When students are to do certain tasks or to bring certain materials (home-works,
handouts, electronic media, etc.) and fail to commit to those tasks, they are suggested
to leave the classroom without consequence but their own understanding that they
have violated certain ethical conduct. This class is expected to be the students’ practice
in being a professional.

Online Learning Procedure


Online Learning 1:
1) Mahasiswa log-in ke laman daring UMY.
2) Mahasiswa mengakses materi Asesmen 2 berupa beberapa artikel sebagai bahan
kutipan. Materi berupa dokumen terlampir dan link menuju laman artikel.
3) Mahasiswa mengunduh lembar soal untuk mengerjakan asesmen.
4) Mahasiswa mengerjakan soal di lembar asesmen secara berpasangan atau sendiri.
5) Dalam mengerjakan soal asesmen, mahasiswa diharapkan menggunakan buku
American Psychology Association manual yang sudah tersedia secara daring sejak
pertemuan awal atau menggunakan segala sumber daring dari laman yang
disarankan di kelas. Laman yang disarankan sebagai pedoman daring adalah sebagai
berikut:

6) Mahasiswa memiliki 100 menit untuk mengerjakan semua soal.
7) Setelah semua soal dikerjakan, hasil pekerjaan dikumpulkan di babak pengumpulan
Asesmen Citation and Quotation berupa word document
8) Jika waktu yang ditentukan sudah lewat, namun mahasiswa belum mengumpulkan,
mahasiswa akan masih diberikan 30 menit waktu ekstensi, dengan konsekwensi
pengurangan nilai 1% untuk setiap lima menit keterlambatan.

Online Learning 2:
1) Sehari sebelum perkuliahan daring, semua mahasiswa harus sudah mengumpulkan
visual aid secara daring di bilik yang sudah disediakan.

2) Mahasiswa log in di laman pembelajaran daring.


3) Mahasiswa yang sudah mengumpulkan visual aid otomatis akan mendapat satu visual
aid secara acak. Pengacakan dilakukan secara parallel, sehingga bisa saja mahasiswa
mereview visual aid mahasiswa dari kelas lain.
4) Mahasiswa mengunduh visual aid yang akan direview dan lembar review.
5) Selama 100 menit, mahasiswa menelaah seluruh isi visual aid berdasar poin-poin 1)
pemilihan warna, gambar, dan background, 2) kepadatan dan kejelasan isi visual aid,
3) tata letak tulisan, besar dan jenis font
6) Mahasiswa menulis reviewnya di lembar review yang sudah disediakan dan
mengunduhnya kembali.
7) Setelah waktu habis, mahasiswa tidak akan dapat mengumpulkan reviewnya.
Mahasiswa yang tidak mengumpulkan review, dianggap absen satu pertemuan.
Online Learning 3:
1) Mahasiswa log-in ke laman daring UMY.
2) Mahasiswa mengakses materi Asesmen 4 berupa beberapa proposal penelitian untuk
diberi feedback, komentar, atau pertanyaan yang ditujukan kepada penulisnya.
3) Mahasiswa mengunduh materi dan membacanya dengan satu teman sekelompok
atau sendiri.
4) Dalam memberikan tanggapan terhadap proposal penelitian tersebut di laman forum
daring yang telah disiapkan.
5) Mahasiswa memiliki 100 menit untuk menyelesaikan semua bagian asesmen Bersama
seorang mahasiswa lain atau sendiri.
6) Tidak ada toleransi waktu pengerjaan. Forum akan ditutup setelah waktu habis.
7) Mahasiswa yang tidak mengerjakan di laman daring dianggap absen satu kali
pertemuan.
