1. OBJECTIVE OF THE PROJECT
The project aims for avoidance of accident to connect app with a Smart
Helmet. -To provide an Android Application to ignite the rider in the absence of
helmet.

PROBLEM STATEMENTS:
People talk much about safety; but are unable to do anything to prevent unsafe
incidents. Citizens fight for human rights on the television and other public
forums, but are often unable to take any concrete actions to help the general
public. Here we have tried to develop an Android application to help the users
enhance their security with the help of their mobile device.

A. Handling Emergency Situations-

In any serious accident, the “Platinum Ten Minutes" within which an emergency
service attends to the accident victim is crucial. As the driver may lose
consciousnesses or be incapacitated in some other way, especially, in case of 2-
wheelers, this requires an automatic & immediate notification to the emergency
services about the precise location of the accident, biological parameters and medical
history of the accident victim. Similar to emergency calls in cars, an embedded
“Safety Telematics” device equipped with proper sensors like 3-axis accelerometers,
GPS, cellular modem and necessary SW algorithms can provide such a feature in 2-
wheelers. This device can also be programmed to send messages to registered phone
numbers of families and friends.

B. Reducing Rider’s Distraction-

Distracted riding is one of the top reasons for serious road accidents. The causes of
distraction can be many - but the major ones that have been found from analysis of
accident data and related studies is the distraction caused by the phone in the form of
calls and messages.

When a phone call or message arrives, drivers tend to take their eyes off the road to
peek into their ringing phones, or try to send a quick text message, or try to answer the
call. Shifting one’s gaze away from the road even for a few seconds can prove fatal.
Even when using hands-free telephony, this can be risky as the mind tends to focus
more on the phone conversation rather than driving.

2. ABSTRACT
Two wheelers are widely used than other form of vehicles due to its low cost
and simplicity. Most of the time rider doesn’t like to wear helmet which could
result in fatal accidents. Drunk and ride and rash riding are the major factors for
such road accidents. Some statics shows that two-wheeler accidents are caused
due to lack of consciousness, drunk and riding and not wearing helmet. The
primary concern of all riders is safety.

Taking into consideration the safety of RIDERS who work for online business
travel across areas using two wheelers, where safety of bike rider counts. Hence
to track the activities of such rider and to provide safe riding this project has
been proposed.

This project aims for avoidance of accidents and develop road safety system.
The proposed system is to design and develop an android application. The unit
affixed in the helmet, will sync with the unit affixed on the APP to ensure that
biker has worn helmet. The objective is to develop An application that acts as a
security system and monitoring system for riders.
3. INTRODUCTION
The project aims to provide safety for riders. Although helmets have been made
compulsory, still people drive without helmets. In the last few years, there has
been a rapid increase in the number of road accidents. Due to the rise in road
accidents, it has now become necessary to generate a system to limit accidental
deaths. With respect to vehicle safety, India meets only two out of the seven
vehicle safety standards by the World Health Organization (WHO). Two
wheelers account for 25% of total road crash deaths. Nearly 75% motorcycle
riders involved in accidents continued to wear helmets as shown in the records.
The main cause of these fatalities is people riding two wheelers under the
influence of alcohol, violation of traffic rules which later results in serious
accidents. “The likelihood of survival of fatalities wearing helmets is high as
compared to those not wearing helmets”.

In this project there are two units namely helmet unit and non-helmet unit,
helmet will have control over the vehicle start and stop.

In helmet unit, the sensor module is built using sensors like accelerometer
sensor, and touch sensor. All the above sensors are connected to RF transmitter
via comparator. Sensor module will be placed in the helmet to detect whether
the person has worn helmet are not and also checks for alcohol consumption.
Once the person wears the helmet the signals gets transmitted. The unit in the
bike allows the rider to start the vehicle once it receives the signals from helmet
unit. The status of helmet worn is uploaded to the database via GSM. In case of
alcohol-consumption the vehicle remains off though helmet is worn and status
is uploaded to the database. The rash driving detection is done using
accelerometer sensor and the status is uploaded to the database for further
action. The database is maintained by company authorities and required
measures are taken in case of violation of the traffic rules. In case of helmet
lost, an android application is provided to ignite the vehicle for 3 times, after
receiving the signals from helmet unit. After 3 chances helmet lost is noticed to
authority via GSM for further action.

6.TECHNIQUES AND TOOLS USED FOR THIS
PROJECT:
TOOLS:
1.JAVA- Java is a programming language created by James Gosling from Sun
Microsystems (Sun) in 1991. The first publicly available version of Java (Java
1.0) was released in 1995. Sun Microsystems was acquired by the Oracle
Corporation in 2010. Over time new enhanced versions of Java have been
released. The current version of Java is Java 1.7 which is also known as Java 7.
From the Java programming language the Java platform evolved. The Java
platform allows software developers to write program code in other languages
than the Java programming language and still runs on the Java virtual machine.
The Java platform is usually associated with the Java virtual machine and
the Java core libraries.

2.Java Virtual machine

The Java virtual machine (JVM) is a software implementation of a computer that

executes programs like a real machine. The Java virtual machine is written
specifically for a specific operating system, e.g. for Linux a special
implementation is required as well as for Windows.

3.Android-Android is a software platform and operating system for mobile

devices. Android is available as open source. It allows developers to
write managed code in the Java language, controlling the device via
Google-developed Java libraries.
Android SDK was released by Open Handset Alliance in the month of November
of the year 2007. Android was actually developed using the kernel of Linux 2.6
and the highlighting features of Android include the following:
• No fees for licensing, distribution and release approval
• GSM, 3G EDGE networks for telephony
• IPC message passing
• Background processes and applications
• Shared data stores
• Complete multimedia hardware control
• API’s for location-based services such as GPS.
4.Eclipse- is a multi-language software development environment comprising an
integrated development environment (IDE) and an extensible plug-in system. It
can be used to develop applications in Advanced Java and, by means of various
plug-ins with other programming languages like C and C++.[9] Its features are:

 It is Open Source.
 It is strongly recommended by Android developers.
 It is directly linked with the compiler, so we don’t need to compile the
program.
 It has a good User Interface.

5.2 Modules
1. Register four numbers: Firstly the user has to register the four numbers
as per their choice.
2. Send predefined text: Then after clicking on send option a message can
send on the four registered numbers.
3. Get latitude and longitude of device and create a Google map link: Send
device location to the sender of SMS.
4. Exit Application
The Broadcast receiver then alerts the application when each new SMS
arrives.
