C. Reports

 In the 2014 report of the World Bank titled ‘The Economic Cost of Homophobia: A
Case Study of India’, the World Bank found that the Indian economy was losing about
1.7% of its GDP due to homophobia. This occurs due to the loss of labour force and
shrunken productivity causing a considerable loss of impending economic output. It was
noted in the report that, “In an economy the size of India’s, as much as 32 billion dollars
a year are lost, resulting in a drag on growth and lower tax revenues, which in turn
damages education and health funding”. The economic productivity is further reduced
and impacted by the social trauma faced by LGBT working or seeking employment.
Therefore, it shall be realized that non-inclusive work environments for LGBT have
a strong impact on productivity in the workplace.

 As per the Expert Committee Report on Transgender Person’s Bill, 2016, it has been
analyzed that the problem faced by the transgender community have been brought to the
notice of the government and some major issues are social stigma, discrimination, lack of
education, public health care, employment opportunities etc. It was suggested to
constitute a committee to study the problems of the community, passport authorities and
election commission may consider replacing the existing column of ‘other’ bt the term ‘
Transgender gender’, sensitize police about the human rights abuse of transgender
community and take appropriate steps to stop abuse etc.
