Movies (Original language with English subtitles, then without subtitles. If difficult, Hungarian
subtitles first.)
Notting Hill 1999 - Romantic comedy, contains both British, and American English. Good for
learning the difference.
Jurassic Park - Entertaining action movie with easy to understand language, with child actors.
Forrest Gump - Entertaining Comedy, Drama. Main character has speaking problem, so uses
simple English
The King’s Speech - About a King, who has speaking disabilities and learns proper English.
The Break-up - Funny Comedy starring Jennifer Aniston and Vince Vaughn
Love Actually - Great comedy to get you into the Christmas spirit while also learning British
English.
The Shawshank Redemption - Drama about a prison break, number 1 movie on IMDb, so should
be good. (Written by Stephen King, but not a horror movie.)
Castaway - Drama starring Tom Hanks, he's on an island alone, so not a lot of talking.
Marvel Superhero movies - They're made from comic books intended for children, so the
language isn't hard at all.
Toy Story (Series) - Fun movies intended for children, with an easy to understand language.
Frozen - Fun, sometimes a bit sad, easy to understand movie meant for children.
TV Shows
Sitcoms
Friends - Not just a great and funny show, it also has an easy to understand language.
How I Met Your Mother - Funny, easy to understand, with a good story.
The Big Bang Theory - Funny, easy to understand except Sheldon's science speach.
Books (Read, look up words you don't understand, write them down into a notebook)
Charlotte's Web (E.B. White) - easy to understand book, first mandatory book for native English
children.
How the Grinch Stole Christmas (Dr. Seuss) - Fun, Christmas themed book especially written for
Children.
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (Ronald Dahl) - Easy to understand, interesting book about
children for children.
The Chronicles of Narnia (series)(C.S. Lewis) - Fantasy series about children, written for children.
Matilda (Ronald Dahl) - Fun book about a child, made into a movie.
The Hobbit (J.R.R. Tolkien) - Fantasy book about a Hobbit, who goes on an adventure.
