Reaction Paper: “Bugs Life”

Management is the backbone of the organization. If it fails so as the organization.

Management consists of right people who knows how to handle things and to perform doing the

appropriate actions. The future of the organization is in their hands. They are responsible for

planning, organizing, and controlling the company together with their subordinates. Though

every member of the management has a different task, they have a specific goal which is

becoming the best company. Management will not exist without a brain that ensure everything is

going according to plan. Also, the members who devote in executing the orders for attaining the

goal of the company.

The three most important scenes in the movie regarding management function or

principles of management for me are:

First, It both shows the 2 principles, which are Unity of Direction, where

ants/subordinates exerts effort in different tasks to do but focused under one plan/objective

which is to collect foods for grasshopper. It shows also Esprit de Corps because there’s a unity

and teamwork in doing their task.


Second, It shows Unity of Command, where the ants/subordinates received order from

their queen /manager to put the foods to the offering stone and directs to go into anthill and also

one of the functions of management which is Leading.

Third, It shows Centralization where major policies are made from the top management

or there’s a boss and board of directors that plans and decide what should happen and that shows,

Planning.

The two most valid criticisms to the management style of Hopper and Princess Atta for

me are:
Hopper is a bossy manager. He is mostly dependent on others. He is brutal and harsh

towards his employees. This kind of management is a bad example in managing a company. A

good manager should be patient. Unlike hopper who hurts his colleagues whenever they commit

a mistake, a good manager educates and teaches the right thing to do.

Princess Atta is not an authorative leader. She is kind, giving and not that strict. But when

hopper arrived she let them bully her company. Princess Atta gave everything what Hopper

asked resulting in abuse. She is the type of manager that does not handle situations properly. She

does not come up a way in solving the matter that will make her company in a good state.

A good manager knows how to stand for what he believes is right. That’s what the

princess lacks. The ants (her company) were treated like a servants which she tolerated.
Princess Alta on the other hand is not knowledgeable to her position. She lets herself be

under someone's power when in fact they have the same authority at their hands. A good

manager knows her worth and power. If Princess Atta cannot defend herself, then how can she

take good care of her company?

First of all, a manager makes good if he knows how to create a plan that will lead the

company to its mission and vision. He assures that the company is always in the best state. A

good manager knows the capabilities of his employees. He knows the right people who can lead

in achieving the company's tasks and who can control any situation perfectly.

Being responsible is what a manager must possess and thats make him a good manager.

He must establish authority but at the same time, encourages and inspires his employees to work

hard and do their best. He listens, he teaches, and most importantly promotes a healthy working

environment. A manager makes good if he is a role model for the company and also learn from

their own mistakes.
