BSLM-1A Mr. Christopher Rey R. Bajamonde

Synthesis Paper

During our first semester in theology, we had discussed the shadows of Filipino
religiosity, the sacraments, the Benedictine saints and the like. But in Theology 2, I noticed that we
focused more on Jesus Christ himself, focusing on many different perspectives as well as the so
called Historical Jesus. Thinking harder on it, I believe I may have confused myself in trying to
understand the Hsitorical Jesus for I am a faithful believer of Christ. The Historical Jesus seeks to
provide evidence or to prove his very much debated existence and I may have overlooked the fact
that most of these "basis for evidence" actually has no absolutely confirmed and undebunkable
physial manifestation. I am gradually getting more interested in the subject matter for as a student
in the Legal Management course I am very interested in things that need scrutiny and are subject to
debate, despite it being about a theological discussion. We had also discussed about the Gospels and
the Scriptures, two things that are always hand to hand when heard about. The Bible is the Word of
The Lord and contains messages of both his life, how he accomplished his mission of becoming our
savior through his death and ressurection as well as the stories that leave behind a constant
reminder to always trust in his will. The many theories concerning how the Bible came to be may
exist and I learned that not all the writers of the Gospels had the exact same depiction of Christ in
their written work. It is something very new that I discovered and I think this is one of the reasons
why the Bible has so much mystery in it. It is clear that Jesus inslired and influenced each disciple in
a different way, a different manner of his ability emphasized in each Gospel book. Now that we have
partially gone through the second semester, I think that we are studying more about Jesus himself
as part of my character formation as a student of San Beda College Alabang and as a Filipino
Catholic. There are so many aspects of Jesus that I still have not learned about and this strongly
connects to how we battle against the shadows of Filipino Religiosity. It makes me wonder who is
Jesus really to me and do I really pay attention to his word? Do my actions and attitude towards the
community truly represent the values of a Bedan? As we go on with our lessons I hope that I will
also realize more about myself through self reflectiom, how I am inspired to excell in my chosen
career out of the desire to serve others and how further study about theology, along with prayer and
work would be my stepping stone to someday become a successful and just lawyer.
