Main Idea: This video is about Kayla Scheer has wanted to be an educator since fourth grade. She
said the power of play takes on a big role in her teaching. Being a Millennial, she’s on the technology
fad, thus it has made its mark on her teaching.As an educator, she’s not sure why we are teaching
“21st century skills” and tinkering with Technology is her concept of learning.

Special Expression: Working on Snapchat, Instagram,Facebook within moments and teaching you
how to do more on your phone. So, my question today is why are we you still teaching our students
with the owner’s manual are? Is that 21st century learning that's what we should be doing now? I
told my husband the story and he said great! but you can't do this every day.

My Comment: Very inspiring video! she allow cell phones in classroom. Letting students play
because if we do and use technology then they are going to have learner autonomy, higher
retention and build these trendy 21st century skills. She have a weekly blog so when students
are done and getting unruly, post to the weekly discussion it's either practicing Spanish or
it's a culture question. They can get on to Quizlet and can study vocabulary, play with the
current issues. Learning in class it's like a game.

My Comment: 20th Century is learning content and 21st Century is learning the tools and
skills to remake the content to become the producer and creator.

Message: inspired and developed, it is learning the content which is very much the 20th century
idea around education. But in 21st century it's learning the tools and the skills of remaking that
content and becoming the creator and the producer. Learning outside of school matters
tremendously for the learning in school, so a lot of what we're trying to say about kids in formal
learning with new media is part of an already existing set of understandings, that educators have of
the importance of the home environment, for the pure environment, for the community, for
learning that happens in schools.

I think kids are born consuming media but I don't think kids are born producing media. Almost any
kid that you look at and you said wow! this is a great user of digital media you can trace back there's
a parent.

My Comment: 21st Century is learning the tools and skills to remake the content to become
the producer and creator. 21st Century learning outside from the classroom. Learner enjoy
and learn better. Skill base vs theory or knowledge base, using modern technology. Skills for
the 21st Century is moving beyond skills around using technology and expanding skills
around creativity, engagement and social interactions.

old. He had idea to start a business providing dial-up internet services to the United,he joined a
computer user group for a very strange operating system called Linux. To him it was just so obvious
that the world was going to change, he was pretty sure banking, was going to change and he was
pretty sure that you would be able to buy software and even books online and its really easy to ship
things.

to apply the advice you're getting , ask the right person and the right question understand their
journey and then you actually understand the nuggets you can take out of it.

My Comment: Inspiring video! one thing he have learned is that “ if you're going to invest in
something you find really honest , young , smart people and you invest in them”. If you get
leadership right you can you can get amazing results. So be honest, be open listen, set a
high standard, maintain a high standard. He wish for young Queenslanders is that they have
all the opportunity that will to do whatever they want . That is not gifting them anything.
That's giving them the chance to try.
