Hardware Connections
The LD3 has two Amphenol Connectors as shown below. The rear connector
is used for Power and NMEA Out/ RTCM Out.
NMEA Out is on Pin 2 and RTCM out is on Pin 3 of the 9 Way D-type Socket.
The front connector is used for configuring the internal GPS (Cable Marked
GPS) and to configure the L-Band Demodulator (Marked OEM) using the
supplied Veripos OEM software package. Operation of software is described
in more detail later in this guide.
The Signal level bar (SIG) has 8 LED’s. If the unit is receiving a suitable signal
level the LED’s will be illuminated GREEN. Typically the user should expect to
see one of the last three LED’s on the right lit indicating a good signal level.
If the signal level drops, the LED illuminated will move to the left turning
AMBER and then RED if the signal is lost completely.
DGPS This LED will be illuminated if the GGA NMEA string being
output is differentially corrected.
A typical display for normal operation is shown below indicating that the LD3
is operating as expected.
Software Operation
Connect a PC to the OEM cable connected to the front of the LD3. Run the
Veripos OEM software executable which will load the screen below. Select the
PC comm port that OEM cable is connected to.
Click OK, and if the correct comm port has been selected the user should see
the screen below. If not, please check the comm settings until this details on
the unit are seen as shown below.
Click OK to continue.
Once the software has established communication with the LD3 the user shall
be presented with the initial menu screen as shown below. A description of
the different menu options will follow.
Clicking on Finished will exit the user from the software application.
The screen below shows whether the unit has a valid subscription. If the last
letter of the Unit Code is a D this indicates that the Unit is disabled and the
front panel ID light should be flashing or out. To obtain a valid access code it
is necessary to contact the Veripos Helpdesk as shown where upon the user
will be asked for the Unit ID (shown on front panel).

The screen below shows the signal strength plus other status information
relating to the received signal. The most important information is the Signal
Strength which can have a maximum value of 3.5v and the status bar (SIG)
on the front panel should be GREEN until the Signal level drops to
approximately 2v where it will turn AMBER.
The bit error rate provides an indication of the signal quality and should be 7,
if it drops to 6 or 5 this will indicate a drop in signal quality.
Frequency Offset indicates how far off the set channel frequency the
demodulator is tracking. A low number is desired as a larger number indicates
that the demodulator is searching a larger bandwidth for the signal and is an
indicator of a poor signal.
Channel Selection
The following screen the channel selection within the LD3. Line five is
highlighted to show the current selection. To change channels click on the
required channel and YES to confirm your selection. Automatic option shown
is not available at this time.
Below is the station selection view. To enable a station click on the stations
SEL option and confirm your selection when asked. To disable a station click
on the SEL option and confirm the selection when asked.
The table may be blank if the unit does not have a valid subscription or if the
Channel Selection has been changed. The table is populated by a
transmission from the network control center and may take up to 20 minutes
after channel changes or subscription changes to become populated.
When using a DG14 GPS card up to eight stations can be selected as the
GPS card will do its own multi reference station solution.
If a firmware update is required, the user will need to contact the Veripos
Helpdesk to obtain the latest firmware and the unlock code for the software.
This will then permit the user to upgrade the firmware on the LD3 with the
supplied BIN file.
