WHAT ACTIONS ARE REQUIRED:

System firmware consists of two components, an SP component and a host component. The service processor (SP) firmware component is
located on the SP, and the host component is located on the motherboard. In order for the server to operate correctly, these two components
must be compatible.

NOTE: After replacing the service processor (SP), the new service processor (SP) firmware component must be compatible with the existing
host firmware component. If the firmware components are incompatible, load new system firmware.

CAUTION: Ensure that all power is removed from the server before removing or installing the service processor (SP). You must disconnect
the power cables from the system before performing these procedures.

CAUTION: These procedures require that you handle components that are sensitive to ESD. This sensitivity can cause the component to
fail.

NOTE: The amber SP OK/Fault LED on the front panel will be lit when an SP fault is detected.

1. If possible, back up the Oracle ILOM configuration before removing the SP (After you replace the service processor (SP), restoring
the service processor (SP) configuration will be easier if you previously saved the configuration using the Oracle ILOM backup
utility. Refer to the Oracle ILOM documentation for instructions on backing up and restoring the Oracle ILOM configuration. To
retain the same version of the system firmware with the new service processor (SP), note the current version before removing the
service processor (SP)).

A) Prepare for servicing:

1. Attach an antistatic wrist strap.
2. Power off the server and unplug power cords from the power supplies.
3. Remove the server from the rack.
4. Remove the top cover.

B) Removing the service processor (SP)

1. Locate the service processor (SP).

NOTE: If you are removing the service processor (SP) because you are replacing the motherboard, set the service processor (SP) aside
where it is protected from static.. You must reinstall the service processor (SP) on the new motherboard.

2. Remove the service processor by completing the following tasks:

a. Grasp the service processor (SP) by the two grasp points and lift up to disengage the service processor (SP) from the connectors on
the motherboard. (Remove the 2 screws on the Netra.)
b. Lift the service processor (SP) up and away from the motherboard.

C) Installing the service processor (SP)

1. Install the service processor (SP) by completing the following tasks:

a. Lower the side of the service processor (SP) with the Align Tab sticker at an angle down on the service processor (SP) tab on the
motherboard.
b. Press the service processor (SP) straight down until it is fully seated in its socket. (Insert the 2 screws on the Netra)

2. Return the server to an operational condition:

a. Install the top cover.
b. Return the server to the normal rack position.
c. Reinstall the power cords to the power supplies.

3. Prior to powering on the server, connect a terminal or a terminal emulator (PC or workstation) to the service processor (SP) SER MGT
port.

If the replacement service processor detects that the service processor (SP) firmware is not compatible with the existing host firmware,
further action will be suspended and the following message will be displayed:

Unrecognized Chassis: This module is installed in an unknown or unsupported chassis. You must upgrade the firmware to a
newer version that supports this chassis.
If you see the preceding message, continue to the next step 4 (for details see doc 1517032.1). Otherwise, skip to Step 5.

4. Download the system firmware.

a. Configure the service processor NET MGT port so that it can access the network, and log in to the service processor through the NET
MGT port. Refer to the Oracle ILOM documentation for network configuration instructions.
b. Download the system firmware.
Follow the firmware download instructions in the Oracle ILOM documentation and the specific firmware patch.

NOTE: You can load any supported system firmware version, including the firmware version that was installed prior to replacing the service
processor (SP).

c. If you created a backup of your Oracle ILOM configuration, use the ILOM restore utility to restore the configuration of the replacement
service processor (SP).
Refer to the Oracle ILOM documentation for instructions.

5. Power on the server.

6. Set ILOM date/time (-> set /SP/clock datetime=MMDDhhmmYYYY.ss)

7. Verify the service processor functionality.

NOTE: In case the FW upgrade via ILOM BUI fails, please use the CLI method (see example in doc 2019500.1). You may need a source of
TFTP in order to upgrade firmware via CLI commands, for details refer to: Solaris[TM] Operating System: How to set-up a TFTP server. (Doc
ID 1004474.1).

ALERT: In some rare cases when updating the SysFW via CLI (and during CLI execution), it may fail with the following error:

Hostname: <hostname>

-> load -source tftp://<IP_address>/Sun_System_Firmware-9_4_2_e-SPARC_T5-4+T5-8.pkg

Cannot read power state

load: Command Failed

If that happens, use the below steps (confirmed by FSEs to be a successful workaround in resolving the issue):

- Return the original part

- Install the last firmware with the old part
- Install again the new part
- Try to re-flash the last firmware

NOTE: part could be either MM, MB or SP

WHAT ACTIONS ARE REQUIRED TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE?:

Boot system and monitor boot sequence for errors. Test functionality of system:
1. Run the Solaris "fmadm faulty" and SP/ILOM "show faulty" command to verify that the fault has been cleared.
2. Perform one of the following tasks based on your verification results:
* If the previous steps did not clear the fault, refer to doc 1004229.1 for information about the tools and methods you can use to diagnose
and clear component faults.
* If the previous steps indicate that no faults have been detected, the component has been replaced successfully. No further action is
required
3. Restart software applications per applicable administration guides to resume system operation.
