When oils spills happen, and they happen more regularly than most people
We have documented the realise, the first thing people envision are horrific pictures of animals covered in
oil. Sadly, this is often the case, and in Asia, the ability to respond to these
need for what
What we are
is compelling animals is very limited. In fact, in many rural areas, local people are paid to
planning
to do. us? collect this toxic discharge without any protective equipment.
In 2015, Sea Alarm partnered with an NGO (Non-Governmental Organization)
in India on a pilot project to address this situation. The response was strong and
positive. As a result, we are ready to expand our operations, opening a field
office in Asia.
Sea Alarm aims to change the oil spill response situation in Asia by establishing a field office in the
region where we can be in constant contact as we build a network of oiled wildlife responders in the
region. We will work closely with the international oil spill response agencies helping to bring safer, more
effective response skills to coastal communities, helping those communities to protect themselves and
reduce the impact on their livelihoods.
What do we, as the It is often difficult for projects to grow from local to larger scale work. Until
organization wish now our efforts have been focused in Europe and we have been successful in
to accomplish? obtaining European Community funding for several of our projects. We are now
ready to expand to other parts of the world. However, to do so requires us to
also broaden our funding base. And to do that we need to learn how to distill a
very complex project which engages government, industry, local NGOs and
scientists, into a compact informational package that can be easily
understood by people outside the oil spill response industry and government
response managers.
What is our Wildlife in Asia faces so many threats today. Loss of habitat, human-animal
conflict, and capture or killing for the illegal trade are just a few of the problems
campaign resulting in population declines and the threat of extinction. Pollution, particularly of
water sources and aquatic habitat, can tip the scales for these animals. An oil spill
goal? has long lasting impacts on the environment and food supply, for both wildlife and
local people, if not quickly responded to.
We have momentum in Asia now, with serious interest both from those who will
be responding to oiled wildlife and from foundations wanting to support work in the
FOR region that improves the lives of local people. We have the backing of the industry
the stakeholders and the International Maritime Organisation if we move quickly to get this project
off the ground.

Sea Alarm aims to leverage our influence. We envision a well-managed
response system within the region where the occurrence of oil spills might go
unnoticed or receive little international attention. We can create a more prepared
oiled wildlife response system through an on-going training scheme, always
ready for advice and timely responses.
Why is this the right moment? Our partner, OSRL has a Singapore response centre already housing some of
our oiled wildlife equipment and can assist with activation. Their classrooms can
be used for training. We have established relationships with wildlife rescue and
rehabilitation organisations in the region through our pilot project and they are
eager to continue working with us to build capacity.

The campaign will begin in 2016 and conclude in 2020. We will begin by engaging our Board of
Directors and some key European officials who are supportive of our work in spreading the word
about this campaign. Initial funding for staff (campaign manager) and materials will come from a
grant and on costs will be built into the campaign budget.
