Types of Courses
– Standard
– No weighted quality point for GPA
– Honors
– Advanced courses that students may earn a weighted credit to GPA
– Advanced Placement
– Administered by College Board
– Students may earn college credit if they pass the AP exam with a 3 or higher
– AP Scholars program
– Dual Enrollment
– Students simultaneously earn college credit
– The grade a student receives in a class is the same grade they receive on their college transcript
– On campus and off campus
How are students placed in
courses?

–Test scores
–Academic Record
–Teacher Recommendations
Rigorous Curriculum
– The Opportunity Myth
– A & B students are reaching college and are having to take remedial courses
– Have to spend an average of additional $3,000 on tuition
– Students who take a remedial course are 74% more likely to drop out of
college
– Colleges are looking for rigorous curriculum on the student transcript
– Helps to build students academic skills
– Analytical skills
– Writing skills
– Time management
DA Requirements
– At least 3 academic courses
– At least 3 arts courses
– All arts courses are determined by Arts Director
– Must continue with math even after meeting graduation
requirements
– Colleges do not want to see a year off from math or science
courses during a student’s senior year
– Must complete all online courses prior to Orientation
– Math and ELA must be taken on campus
– May not graduate early from DA
