Chapter 2

METHOD

Presented in this chapter is the method used in this study which composes the

research locale, population and sample research instrument and data gathering

procedure or collection and the statistical treatment of data to be analysed.

Research Design

This study used a quantitative non-experimental research design utilizing

correlation technique. This method is used when the objective is to describe the status of

the situation as it exist at the time of the study to explore the causes with a particular

phenomenon. In correlation research, the study is concerned with establishing

relationships between two or more variables in the same population or between the same

variables in two population (Gay, 2006 & Leedy, 2010).

Research Locale

The research entitled “Healthcare Workers” Services and its impact on Patients

Satisfaction in Quality Care Service”, an intuitive from five researchers coming from a

well-progressive institution of Lorenzo S. Sarmiento Sr. National High School in the

prominent barangay of Poblacion under the Municipality of Mawab, Davao de Oro

Province.

Philippines, originally plotted at 125°56`E latitude and 730°`N longtitude in the

Globe has its three wealthy archipelago namely Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. Mindanao
where the towering valley of Davao de Oro historically originates, is fuelled with eleven

(11) Municipality. And one of the most progressive Municipalities is Mawab or Maa-wag.

Mawab is Composes of eleven (11) well-known barangays which are abundant

with great agricultural and hand-made treasures. Starting with the scenic view of Andili,

the crafts of Bawani, the fruitful of Conception, the crystal waters of Malinawon, the

miniature`s mountains of Salvacion, the industrialized Poblacion, the bigget reservoir of

Sao-sao, the pastries of Nuevo Iloco, the mining spot of Nueva Visayas, the Sawangan,

and spring waters of Tuburan.

Poblacion is considered as the central part of Mawab, where private and public

schools, hospitals and industries can usually be seen. Due to the vast number of

population circling the vicinity, and the presence of industrialized buildings specialized in

different fields, this gives us a very good reason to seek for a problem-solution scenario.

Health is undeniable essential in life of every human being. Health is a highly

cherished state of being. The worth regarding health is almost universally recognized.

Today, health is a universally viewed as an important index of human development.

Hence, the research focuses on its lens on the relationship of the patient`s satisfaction

and healthcare worker`s services in the point of view of the people in Mawab, Davao e

Oro.

Population and Sample

Complete and through enumeration was utilized in the selection of respondents.

The identified subjects of the research were the healthcare workforce and the known

respondents were the 30-inpatients of Doctors Community Hospital which encompasses


the Nurse Station 1 and Nurse Station 2. Congruently, shown in the table 1 are the

respondents of the study who were in-patients in the Nurse Station 1 and 2 of Doctors

Community Hospital as of February 15, 2019.

As per selection of the respondents of the study, the researchers used the random

sampling technique where the respondents were chosen randomly in the sample

population of the hospital`s in-patients population. The distribution of respondents in the

Nurse`s Station 1 as shown in the Table 1 was as follows: four (4) from the Female Ward,

three (3) from the Male Ward, Four (4) from the Semi-Private Rooms, one (1) from the

Treatment Room and four (4) from the Alley.

Wherefore, the respondents from the Nurse`s Station 2 are five (5) from the

Female Ward, two (2) from the Male Ward, four (4) from the Private Rooms, one (1) from

the OB Room and Treatment Room and finally, three (3) from the Alley. Thereupon, the

total number of in-patients involved in the study are 32.

Research Instrument

In this section, the researchers afforded questionnaires in order to collect and

gather the relative date. The questionnaires as an inquiry instruments had been widely

accepted as a functional and practicable method in gathering or collecting data to be able

to answer the concerns in the study.

The purpose of this questionnaire is to examine and test the extent of the validity

of this correlational research. This research instrument used in the study was adopted

from the standard of Reyez (2016) for the independent variable and Elias (2013) for the

dependent variable but modified questionnaire to suit the context of the study. The first

set of questionnaire deals with the healthcare workers` services in hospital with three

indicators; comprehensiveness, person-centeredness, and accountability and efficiency.


The content of the instrument were presented to the group of experts for validation and

gained an average rating of 4.9.

In evaluating the level of healthcare workers` services in hospital, the five

orderable gradations with their respective range of means and description were

considered.

The second set of the instrument embarks with patients` satisfaction in quality

care. It was composed of three indicators such as admission process, physicians` care,

and physical environment.

For the patients` satisfaction, the following five orderable gradations with their

range of means and description were considered:

Remarkably, the instrument used in the study was content validated by experts

with an overall rating of 4.9.

Data Procedure/Data Collection

The researchers have done the following procedures in collecting relevant data in

this research`s productivity.

After we, the researchers, passed the title defense and was able to gain two

approved research titles, we have chosen and directed our point of view in the study of

health services and patients` satisfaction. To further attain a permission to conduct the

said research, crafting of letter of approval followed and was given to the office of our

Principal and then to the office of our chosen hospital, where we`d conduct the research.

Upon the approval of both significant offices, letter of endorsement was sought in

accommodating the researchers as we have administered questionnaires on our

respondents. Further, before the survey questionnaires were personally handed out, the

researchers explained the means and importance of the questionnaires and tool that were
used. Finally after the researchers have retrieved the answered questionnaires, they

immediately proceed to the tallying and tabulating of collected data, subject to statistical

analysis. Then, the statistical were analysed and interpreted. With the data, conclusions

were drawn out and recommendations were formulated based on the findings of the

research.

Statistical Tool

The statistical tools that were used for data analysis and interpretations are the

following:

Mean. This statistical tool was used to determine the level of healthcare services

and patience satisfaction in quality care in hospitals.

Pearson (r). This statistical tool was employed to determine the significance on

the relationship between healthcare services and patience satisfaction in quality care in

hospitals.

Multiple Regressions Analysis. This statistical tool was used to determine the

influence of healthcare services in the patience satisfaction in quality care in hospitals.
