Claudia the star performer:

Case study

1) As a star performer who wanted to continue achieving in her profession

Claudia did the right thing. It’s important for a person to never settle down
and look for better options. She worked really hard and performed the best
that’s why she was the star performer; it was now the bank’s responsibility
to give her more incentives, benefits and promotions so that she continues
working with them.
Being a young energetic MBA graduate Claudia had dreams to excel in her
profession and live in New York. Her new employer not only is giving her
the chance to live in New York but she will be having a better post in the
company. So, I think that Claudia did the right thing, it’s important to
develop your career throughout the life and never settle for something less
than what you deserve. It’s her age to look at different options, try
different places and then stick to one whom she thinks is the best. Her
career has just started and she did the right thing by not settling down to
one company.

2) Ethically Claudia did the wrong thing. The bank payed for her MBA fees so
that in future she works for them. The company wanted Claudia to pay
them back by hey work but in return she chose to leave the company; it’s
like not paying your loan back. The back promised her that she will get
some promotion in the next appraisal, instead of leaving the bank; Claudia
could have waited till the next appraisal to see what the bank had to offer.

1
If she had chosen to continue working in this company she could have
gotten better opportunities since the bank knew that what she’s capable of
by being the star employee.
Claudia should have given the bank one chance to advance her in her
career but being a star performer she couldn’t wait, she wanted things her
way on her own timings. Therefore, I think that it’s not only Claudia’s fault,
the bank should have offered her something better before her leaving.

3) The bank basically suffered a lot. They invested in Claudia’s education for a
purpose that she pays them back by her hard work, instead she stops
working with them and does not pay the bank back. So the bank faced a
great loss.
If I were the member of a executive management committee, I would have
thought of this matter very deeply. I would have recommended doubling
her pay and would have given her more challenging and tougher job. This
way Claudia would have been able to pay the bank back by performing
much of a challenging job than before.
The bank should have realized that a bachelor’s graduate has lesser
demands than the MBA graduate. Therefore, the bank should have already
increased her pay and should have shown to her that she can advance in
her career in the company as well. The bank actually failed to realize that
they have to prove to the MBA graduate that they can advance and develop
their career in their bank as well and that they understand the demand of
the master graduate. She was now a person with much more skills and

2
knowledge than she joined them and she had now different needs and
demands and the bank failed to understand that.
