Description:
This 3-week course titled, Natural Health & Healing 101, is designed to cast a broad
understanding of how food and herbal medicine can stimulate the physiological systems inside
us to work properly and promote health from the inside out. We will discuss and explore a
different way to build up our own natural pharmacy within our bodies each week. Week 1 we
will look at an array of Healing Foods. Week 2 we will pursue a basic understanding of
Medicinal Herbs and we will end with Natural Remedies over Pharma Band-aides in week 3.

Overview of Expectations & Goals:


1-Learn the importance of the foods we eat, how they are helping or hindering our health,
what choices to make to stimulate vibrancy.
2-Learn about the history & efficacy of herbal medicines. Also begin to become familiar
with some herbs that could stimulate optimal health.
3-Learn some examples of how to minimize your prescription drug use by replacing them
with a natural remedy.

Week 1-Healing Foods
Objectives: Students will learn the answers the following questions:
1-What are ‘healing foods’?
2-Who should eat them?
3-What are the benefits of healing foods?
4-What are some changes I can make in my diet to introduce more healing foods
into my diet.
5-What are some examples of healing foods?
6-What are some examples of foods I should avoid?

Duration Objective Talking Points

20 Minutes Intro & Objective #1 Healing foods are foods that are whole, nutritious, and
& Objective #2 clean foods like fruits, vegetables and healthy fats. When
consumed they ward off inflammation and disease….

15 Minutes Objective #3 Healing foods pack many health benefits. We will discuss
the following benefits: Keeping your thyroid healthy,
aiding in digestion, fighting off cancer, reducing your risk
of heart disease, give you energy, fight disease, strengthen
bones, enhance mood, improve memory….
15 Minutes Objective #4 There are some elementary changes you can make in your
kitchen to set yourself up for success. Discuss the
following, throw out your unhealthy fats/oils, be more
selective with the meat you eat, remove/replace refined
sugars and grains….
15 Minutes Objective #5 Share the handout #1 and discuss with learners that list
some examples of which foods to eat. Discuss recipes and
meal options…

15 Minutes Objective #6 Share and discuss handout #2 with list of foods not to eat.
Discuss how to replace some habitual bad food choices.

10 Minutes Wrap-Up Recap the 6 objectives with learners and discuss what
challenges they feel they may face in making the
suggested changes.
Week 2-Medicinal Herbs
Objectives: Students will learn the answers the following questions:
1-What are Medicinal Herbs?
2-What is the history of Medicinal Herbs?
3-What is the efficacy of medicinal herbs? Are they safe?
4-What are some examples of medicinal herbs?
5-What are they used for?

20 Minutes Intro & Objective #1 Define Medicinal herbs for the class. Talk about 10
different classes of herbs and share handout #3

15 Minutes Objective #2 Discuss the history of medicinal herbs with handout # 4

15 Minutes Objective #3 Discuss the current research on herbal medicine, modern


day use, how about 25-30% of contemporary
pharmaceutical drugs are derived from herbs. Review
handout #5 with learners…
30Minutes Objective #4 & #5 Share handout #6 with the learners and review the herbs
on the handout. Discuss

15 Minutes Wrap Up Review 5 Objectives and open it up for discussion


Week 3-Natural Remedies over Pharma Band-aides
Objectives: Students will learn the answers the following questions:
1-Can an individual stimulate health and avoid or even get off prescription
drugs?
2-What are some natural remedies to the top 10 most prescribed drugs?
3-What is the difference in philosophy between natural remedies and
pharmaceutical drug prescribing?
4-Dangers of Prescription drugs

25 Minutes Intro & Objective #1 Open with a reminder of this lesson being for educational
purposes only. Students will watch a video from

25 Minutes Objective #2 Discuss the top 10 most prescribed drugs and some natural
alternatives. Share Handout #7 and discuss

15 Minutes Objective #3 Discuss with the learners the differences between whole
health; body, mind, & spirit and medicating a symptom.

15Minutes Objective #4 Discuss the side effects of long term use of prescription
drugs.

10 Minutes Wrap Up Review 4 Objectives and open it up for discussion
