The complete manual consists of the general chapters and the application module specific parts.
The 6-Series manual should contain at least this chapter and the parts 1 and 2 and one application
module specific part. See the reference list below.
1.1 Introduction
The 6-Series consists of multi functional modular units. The 6-Series service manual is also
modular.
For adequate service of the 6-Series unit it is necessary to have access to all relevant service
documentation and a user manual.
It is also advised to refer to the Technical Reference Book (TRB) part number 1499.750. This
contains technical service information about functional testing, measuring and calibrating of
Enraf-Nonius units.
1.2 Description
The 6-Series has a modular design. Units can be adapted to the therapeutic needs of the user.
Therapeutic possibilities of the 6-Series depend on the configuration of the unit. The ”standard”
housing contains a power supply, the user interface and a colour LCD display. Adding treatment
specific application modules makes it possible to create a custom built unit.
Technical specifications of the modules mentioned above are found in the user manual,
Part ref. nr. 1600.751.
Note Service, testing and repair of the multi-frequency Ultrasound treatment head(s) is
found in part 4 of this manual.
Module identification is possible via the ”System Settings” menu, option “System Info”.
The display shows the software part number of all installed application modules and the software
version of each module.
Each module (or PC Board) used with the 6-Series unit is identified by a self adhesive label. On
this label the reference number, spare part ordering number and the hardware modification
status are found.
It is possible that the hardware of a module or PC Board is changed. When major changes are
made to a module, the reference number changes.
When minor changes are made a module the reference number remains unchanged. When a
hardware modification is made to a module, the modification status is also changed. This
modification can be made during production or, when requested in a service information sheet
(Service Info*), during a service call or in your workshop.
After the modification of a module/PC Board you will be requested to mark the modification
record on the identification label. In this way it is easy to check the hardware status.
* Service Info’s are additional technical information sheets which are related to the modules
in question.
A service info is identified by a prefix (SI) and the number of the manual (part) and a
sequential number.
For example the first additional service info of this part of the manual reads:
SI1600.771-4x - 01.
The 4x refers to the revision status of te part of the service manual (see the header at the
right top of this page).
In a new software release it will be possible to change the modification status of a PC Board or
module. When this option is available the details will be explained in this chapter.
The user interface module and related parts are found inside the top cover of the 6-Series unit.
On the bottom part (chassis) all application modules, the power supply unit (PSU) and a cooling
fan are found.
The application modules are mounted at positions which correspond with the front “slots”. For
details of the location of these slots see fig. 1-C.
The slot number indicates the location of the module on the mounting chassis of the unit, also
see fig. 1-C.
Figure 1-C Location of the modules and parts of the 6-Series unit.
After installing the 6-Series unit, a number of options are available in the system settings menu,
see fig. 1-D. This menu is found at the startup “Home” directory in user mode. Select the option
”System Settings” with the central control and press the Confirmation button.
Note The system settings are explained in the 6-Series user manual.
For more details, see the user manual, reference number 1600.751.
Information about the application software of the unit is found at the “System Info” screen. This
screen is selected in the “System Settings” screen.
Selftest
After connecting the 6-Series unit to the mains, the unit starts with a system test and loading of
the user program into the system memory, the so-called cold-boot. As long as the initializing is
executed the bi-coloured led under the LCD display blinks (yellow). After finishing the initializing
the yellow led stops blinking and lights yellow, unit enters the stand-by mode.
To enter the user mode the On/Stand-by switch must be pressed (the orange coloured switch is
found at the rear of the unit). A selftest is executed, the bi-coloured led blinks (green). After
finishing the selftest the led lights green, an audio signal is heard, the unit enters the “Home”
menu and is ready for use.
If the unit does not switch on or does not enter the user mode, the unit is not operating properly
or an error code is displayed on the screen, see the trouble shooting and error code lists below.

Required test tools for testing the Ultrasound therapy module, supplied by Enraf-Nonius:
Service Information
When the 6-Series unit is switched on, the unit performs a selftest. During this test electronic circuits
on all available application modules are tested for proper functioning.
Recently is discovered that some 6-Series units generate an errorcode when switching on the unit.
Symptom:
The unit displays an errorcode which can be either 388, 389, 390 or 391.
The errorcode which is displayed is generated during the selftest of the ultrasound application module.
During this selftest signals are generated to check the output stage for proper functioning.
Caused by:
Due to an insufficient insulation layer on some PC Boards, two solder pads at the back the PC Board
could short circuit via the heatsink which is mounted to the chassis of the unit.
The selftest detects testing values which are out of range because of these short circuited
connections.
This problem can be solved by insulating these solder pads by means of self adhesive insulation
material. A small piece of self adhesive tape with size of approx. 1 x 2.5 cm. is sufficient and can be
added to the bottom of the PC Board, see the detailed pictures at the back of this page.
After modifying the unit please mark modification record No. 1 on the identification label on the PC
Board.
For details about opening of the housing and removal and mounting of the ultrasound PC Board see
page 3 and 4 of the service information sheet.
Please add this service info to appendix C of your 6-Series Ultrasound module service manual, part
number 1600.775-40.

Service Information
When the 6-Series unit is switched on, the unit performs a selftest. During this test electronic circuits
on all available application modules are tested for proper functioning.
Recently it was discovered that some Sonopuls 692 units generate error code 391 when switching on
the unit.
Symptom:
Caused by:
During production choke L3 (see fig. 1) is mounted with an angle of approx. 450 to fit into the metal
EMC shielding box. With some Ultrasound application modules this choke is mounted with
mechanical force. This may cause electrical contact between the choke and the shielding box.
This problem can be solved by insulating the surface as shown at fig. 3 by means of self adhesive
insulation tape. A small piece of self adhesive tape with size of approx. 2.5 x 3 cm. is sufficient and
can be added to the inner side of the shielding box. It is also advised to put a piece of adhesive tape
with size of approx. 2.5 x 5 cm. at the front of the shielding box.
See the back of this page for detailed instructions and pictures.
After modifying the shielding box please mark modification record No. 3 on the identification label on
the PC Board.

5.1 Introduction
This part of the 6-Series service manual handles the Vacuum application module. For correct
servicing the following parts of this service manual are also required:
5.2 Description
The Vacuum application module, the Vacotron module, is divided into two parts:
- Vacuum pump module, located on the chassis (also see fig. 1-C, part 1 of
this service manual)
- Vacuum distribution unit, separate unit placed under the 6-Series unit.
The basic electro therapy module (Endomed module) is used for two channel Interferential
therapy and TENS waveforms. The additional vacuum application module adds the possibility of
application with vacuum electrodes. At the bottom of the 6-Series unit (when equipped with an
Electro therapy module) a connector is mounted for connection of the electro therapy outputs to
the vacuum distribution module. The vacuum module supplies the vacuum required for the
vacuum electrodes, it does not generate Electro therapy signals. See fig. 5-A, 6-Series unit with
the vacuum module.
Module identification is possible via the ”System Settings” menu, option “System Info”. The
application software version of all installed modules is shown on the display. An application
module or PC Board used with the 6-Series unit is also identified by a self adhesive label. On
this label the reference number, spare part ordering number and the hardware modification
status can be found.
Note For details see part 1 of this service manual, chapter 1.3 and 1.4.
Figure 3-A shows the location of the Electro therapy module found on the chassis of the unit.
For testing of the Vacuum application module (Vacotron) following special tools are required:
Note It is advised to use dummy plugs to close the vacuum connectors during testing of
the vacuum circuit. It is also possible to use vacuum cables for closing the vacuum
connectors. It is not advised to use the vacuum cables with the vacuum electrodes
connected, this may cause some leakage via the vacuum electrodes. For testing a
four channel vacuum distribution module 4 dummy plugs are required.
For extended functional testing (only performed when the unit generates an error code or does
not function correctly):
Before performing the functional test it is advised to check the software versions and the
modification status of the modules. Update the software (see the Enraf-Nonius Partner-site for
the latest version) if required. Also check the internet site for prescribed modifications to the
application modules (PC Boards) of the unit.
Note When a modification is made to a module / PC Board, the modification status must
be changed if requested. See par. 5.7.5 for changing of the modification status.
5.4.2 Selftest:
A detailed description of the selftest is found at par. 1.5 of the Quick reference / Trouble
shooting part of this modular service manual. Part number of part 1 of the 6-Series service
manual is 1600.771
