Following are the reference standards that refers to generate the standard procedure for shop testing
of the product, unless otherwise specified specifically latest edition of documents shall be referred.
Test Preparation:
Calibrated pressure gauges shall be used for test, test pressure shall be within 1/3 rd to 2/3rd of the gauge
range.
The accuracy of the pressure gauges shall be 2% at full scale. The Dial size of the gauge shall be at least
4” / 100 mm. One pressure gauge shall be used as per the sketch attached.
The test shall be carried out at ambient temperature.
Test Procedure -
Hydro Leak Test Procedure Based on ASME B31.1
1. All the valves shall bear Jash serial no / Customer tag no if any – punched on the Skirt / Flange for
verification purposes.
2. Before hydro testing - All NDE and Visual Examination of welds shall be completed in accordance to
QAP /contractual agreement. All the material test certificate of the raw materials / components to
be verified with specifications as per agreed BOM of GA Drawing.
3. The valve surfaces external as well as internal shall be in uncoated condition at the time of test.

4. The assembled valve shall be filled with the test fluid water allowing the air to escape from the vent
provided on the highest point of the assembly ensuring there is no air entrapped in the valve. The
valve shall be slowly pressurized up to the required test pressure i.e. 150 % of the working pressure
or Design Pressure in kg/cm2 of Gauge Pressure.
Pressure shall be continuously maintained for a minimum time of 15 minutes.
After holding time is complete the valve shall be examined visually for any sign of leakage under the
test pressure.
Acceptance Criteria - (a) There shall be no pressure drop during the test.
(b) There shall be no leakage from the weld or parent metal.
(c) There shall be no sign of permanent distortion / deformation.
The valve will be depressurized after the test and visual examination is complete.
5. The water shall be drained from the valve and then dried by blowing compressed air.
