Abstract
The abstract is to be fully justified and italicized as it is here. Use the word “Abstract” as the title, in 11-point Times New
Roman, boldface type, centered relative to the column, initially capitalized. The body of the abstract is to be in 9-point Times New
Roman and single-spaced. Leave two blank lines after the abstract, then begin the main text.
I. Introduction
Principles and/or BASIC instrumentation (present or past tense).
Explain how will the equipment analyze the specific analyte? – Be specific, Very important.
Objectives should be written in paragraph form (past tense).
Properly cite references.
II. Methodology
Brief description of the actual method done in the experiment in paragraph form (past tense) and in chapters if
appropriate.
Should briefly describe the procedures and apparatus used in the experiment. Do not repeat all the information
in the experimental procedure that was provided; simply provide adequate information so that the reader can follow
through your experiment if desired. It can be assumed that the person reading the report have some prior knowledge
in chemistry. Look at how authors of scientific articles do it.
Whenever appropriate, errors possibly committed should also be included, and possible sources and implications
of these errors should be discussed
Incorporate answers to guide/postlab questions
Discuss the effects of any approximation/assumption made
Schematic diagram and instrumentation should no longer be included in this portion ! These should
already be reflected in the introduction.
IV. Conclusion
Answers the objectives (past tense)
Present results
Make it as concise as possible
Should reflect an understanding of the chemical theory involved.
V. References
Use Vancouver style referencing. This style use numbers for in-text citations. The bibliography follows a numbered
format. The references are numbered wherein the number of the reference corresponds to the reference used in the in-
text.
For example:
Chemistry is the study of matter (1). One branch of chemistry is Analytical Chemistry (2). Analytical chemistry is
the science of obtaining, processing, and communicating information about the composition and structure of matter
(1).
