Introduction:
Let me introduce myself as Diditi Singh a permanent resident of India, living with my parents in
India. To enhance my career opportunities back in India, I am willing to pursue my Masters of
International Hospitality Management from The Hotel School – Southern Cross University for
February 2020 intake.
Family Background:
My father was a Civil Engineer by profession and served in UP government services. My mother is
a Government school teacher in Delhi. My younger brother is currently pursuing MBBS degree
frosm a medical college.
Education:
After Graduation:
Later in June 2018, after receiving my final degree certificates, I started working with Cinepolis as
their Management Trainee through campus interview. After completing my training, I left the job
as I always wanted to resume my education and acquire overseas master’s degree for which I
attended a couple of education fairs and prepared for IELTS Exam and appeared for test.
Simultaneously, I did a language course in German (A1 level) for an enrichment in foreign
language. I am Currently workimg with Marriot Hotel as sales & services associate.

Why not home country India?

To enhance my career opportunities in my highly competitive home country, India and to set up
my career as a successful manager, I have planned to pursue my higher studies abroad which
seems to have a prospective future in the companies back in Indian cities. There are few
prominent Colleges here who are offering same course; few of them are IHM Pusa, offering M.Sc
in Hospitality Administration But Admission is highly competitive because of less number of
seats, very high number of aspirants appliying for same course and because of the reservation
qouta in the admission which brings the down the admission prospects for the students like me
who belong to general category. There are other private Colleges like Ansal University & Amity
University offering the almost the similar course but the course curricullum offered by these
colleges is not at par with my career aspirations.

International Research
After above mentioned reasons for not selecting colleges in my home country, India. I started
researching about UK, Canada and Australia; which were the most preferred destinations for
International students.
There are good educational Institutes in other countries which are offering similar courses like
University of Guelph & Royal Roads University in Canada which are offering M.Sc. in
Hospitality Tourism & Master of Arts in Tourism Management respectively. But as per
canadian education system I have to have 4 years of Graduate Degree to pursue Mastes course in
Canada while I have 3 years Bachelors Degree. Also the course fee is low but the outrageous
climatic conditions in Canada will not suit my lifestyle because I am from Asian climatic region it
will be difficult for me to adjust.

I found some good Universities in UK which are offering courses according to my career
aspirations one of them is Cardiff Metropoliten University UK offering the course M.Sc in
International Hospitality and Tourism Management Masters. But UK universities offers the
course period for only 1 year in Masters Degree which would not give me in depth knowledge and
moreover it is not recognised by the Indian employers as a masters certificate. Also the living
expenses are beyond my budget, so I did not prefer to study in UK.

On the other hand, Australian Universities are well known for their education quality and
international ranking. Studying in Australia would offer me real time industry exposure as the
learning is work integrated. Australia offers a safe learning environment with
excellent study prospects and support services for international students. The cost of education
and living expenses in Australia is also much cheaper than the USA and UK. In addition, the
climate of Australia is similar to that of Asian climate. Therefore, I determined to pursue my
higher education in Australia.

Why Australia?
Australia is a worldwide front-runner for education with one of the strongest educational
infrastructures. This makes Australia the second most popular study destination for international
students. There are 25 Australian Universities among top 500 universities in the 2019 QS World
University Rankings, of which 6 are in the top 100. According to the QS Global 250 Business
Schools Report, a total of 17 business schools of Australia is featured in QS’s latest guide for
world’s best institutions for Business study. Australia has internationally renowned courses and
recognized qualifications where most courses and training undertaken by international students
in Australia are covered by Australian Qualification Framework (AQF), authorised by the
Australian government. The provision of education services to international students by
Australian educational institutions is governed by the Education Services for Overseas Students
(ESOS) Act 2000 which maintains the standards determined by the Australian Government to
protect international students and assure the quality of the education they receive. Universities of
Australia offer a wide variety of tailor-made courses to meet each and every student's
requirements. All universities have industry links and will help me build professional interactions.
Australia is one of the most friendly and diverse countries. The Living expenses (AUD$20,290) and
tuition costs are considerably lower in Australia compared to USA and UK. Australia has a low
crime rate which provides a safe environment for study. I have opted to study in Australia because
I am confident of that studying here would be a value addition to my profile. In Australia
education system has a great learning methods enriched with globally ranked universities,
technically sound equipment’s and well trained professors. It encourages one to be innovative,
creative and think independently. Qualification acquired from Australia is recognized worldwide
by all the employers and organization. People from about 200 countries have migrated to
Australia, making Australia one of the most culturally diverse countries in the world. Opting for
Master’s in Australia increases the chances for self-development, diverse knowledge and practical
skills, where I can make best of what I will be studying and implement in future and make my
career better. The four of the top 10 most liveable cities in the world are in Australia. Hence
considering all these factors I have chosen to study in Australia.

Research about other universities in Australia:

I have done research on the Australian Universities regarding Masters in Hospitality & Tourism
Program, requirements, course structure, specialization, tuition fee and living expenses. I found
universities like, The University of Queensland offers Master of Tourism, Hotel and Event
Management with the tuition fee of AU$42,272 and per annum. James Cook University,
Brisbane offers Master of International Hospitality & Tourism Management with the tuition
of AU$32,720 per annum. La Trobe University Offers Master of Business Information
Management Systems with the tuition fee of AU$34,000 per annum. But I prefer to syudy at The
Hotel School – SCU because the institute offeres the niche course in Hospitality and Tourism and is
specialised in field and is offering Master of International Tourism and Hotel Management with
the tuition fee AU$26,400, I prefer to study Master of International Tourism and Hotel
Management program at The Hotel School – SCU because the tuition fee is comparatively very less
and affordable for me when compared with other universities. I feel that masters at The Hotel
School – SCU be the most logical extension of my academic pursuits and a major step towards
attaining my career objectives.

core areas of both hospitality and tourism industry, including recent developments and research
and a mastery of well integrated Hotel and tourism knowledge to propose and justify healthy
solutions. Indian is a vibrant Country with multi cultral and multi lingual regions, each has it own
uniqueness and attractions in terms of tourism. As per Indian Brand Equity Foundation 2019, the
Indian tourism and hospitality industry has emerged as one of the key drivers of growth among
the services sector in India. Tourism in India has significant potential considering the rich cultural
and historical heritage, variety in ecology, terrains and places of natural beauty spread across the
country. Tourism is also a potentially large employment generator besides being a significant
source of foreign exchange for the country. The travel & tourism sector in India accounted for 8
per cent of the total employment opportunities generated in the country in 2017, providing
employment to around 41.6 million people during the same year. The number is expected to rise
by 2 per cent annum to 52.3 million jobs by 2028. So I can assure that I can get numerous
opportunities with my master’s degree. Hence Australian education provides a great backing for
the most successful career one can dream of. This course equips me to take diverse range of roles
at entry levels as Travel Agent, Hotel Manager, Spa Manager, Tour Operator, Event & Conference
Organiser, Tour Guide, Executive Chef, Sommelier, Pr Manager, Leisure Activity Co-Ordinator with
an expected annual package range between of INR 5,00,000-6,00,000 per annum and with
experience can go further high. I can be placed in companies such as Marriott
International India Pvt Ltd, Radisson Blu Hotels, Shangri La Hotels & Resorts, Taj Hotels,Resorts &
Palaces, The Lalit Hotels, The Leela Palace, and so on. For the vacancies advertised in the career
website pages at the said companies, registering by resume on leading recruitment search engines
such as Naukri, Monster and Times Jobs etc. With the international industry exposure and
Australian degree, I am confident to find myself lucrative opportunity in India. Hence investment
on my higher studies in Australia will fetch me good number of career opportunities in India, post
completion of my masters.

Incentives to return back to India:

This industry is growing at a fast pace with more hotels or companies opening every year. This
will give immense opportunities to grow in my field. Also, being the elder child, I have certain
responsibilities towards my family - I am a firm believer of traditional values that have been a
trademark of togetherness. My immediate family has three members that includes my mother, my
brother and me. My ancestoral property values about 5 million rupees, which would be
proportionately inherited by my sibling and me, so post completion of my masters, I will return
back to India.

Accomodation Plans:
I realised there are miltiple accomodation options like Lease a property, Homestays, On Campus
accomodation and so on. The accomodation is available in sydney in different price range based
on the state, city, type of accomodation, facilities availed etc. The price ranges between 150 to 500
AU$ per week, it may come done on shared basis. I have gone through few of the accomodation
providers online and found some good options where I can stays either on shared basis or alone.
Ihave plans to arrange my accomodation in sydney before landing in australia as I can make the
payment from India through credit card. So Accomodation wold not be a problem as there are
enough options in the visinity.
