Task 1: Written Essay

1.1 List five different approaches to self-manage learning in bullet

point and evaluate three of the approaches to self-Managed
Learning.

Self-managed learning refers to a process where an individual can learn and

discover different ways of learning for professional and personal development
(Wilkins, 2015). There are different approaches of self-managed learning like-
Conferences and seminars, Social Networks, Internet, Interviews, Learning
from others. Three of the approaches to self-Managed Learning are
evaluated below:

 Conferences and seminars: Conferences and seminars are good way to

learn new things for an individual. The experienced person share their
experience and thoughts with the attendants of the seminars and conferences
(Brown and Shukraft, 2014). A self-managed learner should attend different
conferences and seminars to learn new ideas. For example, as an assistant of
a local state agency (Forest Enterprise), I can attend conferences and
seminars of others agencies to conduct self-managed learning.
 Social Networks: In the modern era people can share their experiences over
different social media like, Facebook, twitter and Instogram. An individual can
learn new things by using different social media. For instance, I can follow the
official Facebook pages of other agencies to conduct self-managed learning.
 Internet: Internet is a good way to learn new things for a self-managed
learner. For example, as an assistant of local state agency (Forest
Enterprise), I can read blogs and reports of experienced persons in order to
conduct self-managed learning.

Therefore those are the most effective approaches of self-managed

learning. Among them, attending seminars and conferences will be the
most effective for me. I will be able to learn practical knowledge from the
seminars and conferences.
1.2 From the scenario propose 5 different ways in which lifelong learning
in personal and professional contexts could be encouraged.

Lifelong learning is an on-going, intended and committed process where an

individual learn different things for personal and professional requirements (Johns,
2014). Five different ways in which lifelong learning in personal and professional
contexts could be encouraged are discussed below:

 Encouraging self-directed learning: From self-direct learning I can

learn and discover different ways of learning for professional and
personal development. Self-directed learning is essential to develop my
strong interpersonal skills and competencies.
 Further education: I have to understand the current needs of
learning of new things. For instance, I can learn IT courses to
develop my IT skills.
 Continuing professional development: Professional development
is an effective way to develop lifelong learning. I need to learn new
things how to communicate, negotiate, compromise and motivate
others for my career development.
 Linking higher education with industry: Higher education can
enhance the capability of an individual. For example, I can earn an
Master’s degree for my professional development.
 Apprenticeships: Apprenticeships is essential to develop my
lifelong learning. I can develop my skills by conducting
apprenticeships in local state agency.

Therefore, those are the different ways in which my lifelong learning in

personal and professional contexts could be encouraged.
1.3 Evaluate the benefits of self-managed learning to the individual
and organization.

Self-managed learning refers to a process where an individual can learn and

discover different ways of learning for professional and personal development
(Wilkins, 2015). The benefits of self-managed learning to the individual and
organization are evaluated below:

Benefits of self-managed learning to individual: An individual can learn

new thoughts and ideas by conducting self-managed learning. It is essential to
develop the confidence and personality of an individual. For instance a self-
managed employee can lead a team, organize resources, control and motivate
his subordinates.

Benefits of self-managed learning to organisation: Self-managed learning

of an employee is helpful for an organization. The employees can enhance
their efficiency and decision taking ability by the help of self-managed learning.
This approach reduces the cost of the organization as the self-managed
employees do not need any training.

Benefits of coaching and mentoring: Different types of coaching and mentoring

activities are essential to learn new things for an individual. The experienced person
share their experience and thoughts with the learners while coaching and mentoring.

Therefore, both self-managed learning and coaching and mentoring are

necessary for an individual. But coaching and mentoring is the most
effective for an individual as he can learn practical knowledge from
the tutors or mentors.

Task 4

4.1 Select solutions to work-based problems

The Forest Enterprise is facing the problems of underperformance, low quality

service, potential customers losing, lack competent employees, poor
communication, high turnover and reduced productivity. The poor
communication between employers and employees can be reduced by
following ways:

 Defining the problem: At the very first stage of the problem solving process is
to define the problem. The Forest Enterprise is facing the problem of poor
communication between employers and employees.
 Generating alternative solutions: The Forest Enterprise can arrange
counseling of the employees and employers in every week. This agency also
can introduce management information systems in the workplace to ensure
good communication between the employees and employers.
 Evaluating and selecting an alternative: The Forest Enterprise needs to
adopt management information systems to connect every department
systematically. By introducing management information systems in the
workplace the Forest Enterprise can ensure the accountability of the
employees to the employers.
 Implementing and following up: Initially the Forest Enterprise will adopt
management information systems for six months in the workplace. After six
months the overall outcomes of the project will be evaluated. If there is any
problem occurs the Forest Enterprise will following up the problem.

Therefore, those are the ways to solve the poor communication between the
employees and employers of Forest Enterprise.

4.3 Evaluate and use effective time management strategies.

Time management strategy refers to the use of techniques and tools to support an
individual or organization to make the best implementation of working time (Johns,
2014). To get the best benefit of the time management strategy the organization
needs to prioritise its workloads. Then it is essential to set work objectives of the
employees. The organization should utilize the working hours effectively. The
managers of the organization need to maintain the appointments efficiently. There
should be a reliable estimated task time for the employees. The Forest Enterprise
needs to focus on its time management strategy. The agency can adopt and
maintain the appointments of the working hours accurately. By maintaining the
appointments perfectly the Forest Enterprise can provide quality service, enhance
potential customers, make competent employees, and ensure high turnover
and productivity.
