About Us
Askari Flying Academy (AFA), a project of Army Welfare Trust (AWT) is a Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) approved Class II Ground and Flying
Training Organization. We are authorized to conduct Private / Commercial Pilot License (PPL/CPL) Training on Single Engine Piston Aircraft
including Instrument Rating Training on Cessna 172 aircraft and Redbird Advanced Aviation Training Device (AATD) and organize ground
schooling for student pilots. Besides, AFA is also authorized to conduct Flight Operations Officer Course.

It was raised in year 2007 at Benazir Bhutto International Airport (BBIAP), Islamabad with a view to provide quality flying training to aspiring
youth to attain Private / Commercial Pilot License (PPL/CPL) and become professionally sound and safe aviators. Relentless efforts of
experienced Army Aviators resulted in dream coming true in short span of about 3 years during which all procedural formalities, construction
of a purpose built campus, tarmac, maintenance support infrastructure, hiring of experienced human resource and procurement of aircraft
were successfully completed.

AFA is fortunate to have very experienced Instructor Pilots and Ground Instructors who impart training in a congenial and most modern
environment. AFA is equipped with an ideal combo of Cessna 162, Cessna 172 Glass Cockpit aircraft and Redbird Advanced Aviation
Training Device (AATD) which offer a diverse and wholesome training experience to student pilots in the most realistic and futuristic
environments. The course fee and per hour flying rates are subsidized with special discounts for wards of Armed Forces personnel,
Government Servants, War Wounded, Disabled and Shuhada.

First PPL/CPL Course commenced in November 2010 and currently PPL/CPL-10 is in progress. A total of 50 Pilots have successfully
obtained PPL/CPL and joined various airlines and FTOs. Most recently Army Aviation and SPD Pilots had also undergone Instrument Flying
Training on our CAA approved AATD and other flying organizations are also expected to undertake the training soon.

Besides imparting flying training, AFA bears a unique distinction of organizing courses like Flight Operation Officer, Dangerous Goods
Regulation and Cabin Crew. Over 100 students have undergone various ground courses and successfully employed with various
organizations. With the induction of Cessna 172 aircraft, Flight Instructor and Instrument Rating courses have also been introduced.
Besides Askari Air Tour and Charter Services on Cessna 172 aircraft are being offered to general public at promotional and affordable rates.

We are proud to have flown over 2000 occurrence free aircraft hours and continuously endeavor to further improve the quality of our

Colonel Pervaiz Mahmood Butt (Retd) is an experienced
aviator who has served in Army Aviation for over 25 years.
He is a qualified pilot on Fixed Wing and Rotary Wing
(Single Engine and Twin Engine) and an Instructor Pilot on
Rotary Wing with over 2700 hours of accumulated flying
experience. He has also commanded Pakistan Army Aviation
outfit in Africa in support of United Nations Peacekeeping
Mission in Burundi. He has done his MBA and served as
Senior Manager (Business Operations & Coordination) in
Executive Director (Aviation / Finance) Secretariat at Head

A very senior FOO and FGI with a vast experience in the Flight
Operations. He has served in PIA for 40 years in varying capacity

Operations Manager in Shaheen Airport Service, Royal Airport

Cessna 162 Skycatcher
The Cessna 162 Skycatcher is an American side-by-side two-seat, high-wing, strut-braced, tricycle gear light-sport aircraft(LSA) that
was designed and produced by Cessna between December 2009 and December 2013. It is the most recently introduced aircraft in the
company's general aviation product line and its intended market was flight training and personal use. The Skycatcher received its ASTM
LSA approval in July 2009.
The Cessna 162 is equipped for day and night VFR flying only. Aircraft is equipped with a Garmin G300 EFIS, as well as a Garmin
SL40 communication radio, a GTX327 transponder and a 121.5 MHz ELT. Flight data is presented on the G300 in a single, split-screen
combination Primary Flight Display (PFD) and Multi-Function Display.

Cessna 172 Skyhawk
Cessna’s 172 is the world’s most popular light aircraft, with over 80,000 built to date. Although visually quite similar to the 152, the 172
provides accommodation for up to four people, and offers a longer endurance. The 172 is the ideal training aircraft for navigation training,
as it has a higher cruising speed, more cockpit room for working and a longer endurance.
Measured by its longevity and popularity, the Cessna 172 is the most successful mass produced light aircraft in history. The first production
models were delivered in 1956 and they are still in production as of 2009.
The Cessna 172 started life as a relatively simple tricycle landing gear upgrade from the taildragger Cessna 170, with a fairly basic level of
standard equipment. The first flight of the prototype was in November 1955. The 172 became an overnight sales success and over 1400
were built in 1956, its first full year of production.
Early 172s were similar in appearance to the 170, with the same straight aft fuselage and tall gear legs, although the 172 sported a
straight vertical tail while the 170 had a rounded fin and rudder. Later 172 versions incorporated revised landing gear and a lowered rear
deck that allowed an aft window. Cessna advertised this added rear visibility as "Omni-Vision". The final aesthetic development in the mid-
1960s, was the sweptback tail which is still in use today. This airframe configuration has remained almost unchanged since then, except
for updates in avionics and engines, including the Garmin G1000 glass cockpit in 2005. Production had been halted in the mid-1980, but
was resumed in 1996 with the 160 hp (120 kW) Cessna 172R Skyhawk and was supplemented in 1998 by the 180 hp (135 kW) Cessna
172S Skyhawk SP.
Redbird MCX
Advanced Aviation Training Device & Simulator
Askari Flying Academy is the first privileged operator of Red Bird MCX AATD in Pakistan. Red Bird is a USA based OEM. The Directorate
General of Civil Aviation Pakistan has approved the Red Bird MCX AATD vide HQ CAA/1067/117/FSAS dated 23rd September 2014. Our
Simulator Training Centre is the most advanced facility in its own type and category in Pakistan. We are offering a wide range of advanced
training services not available in any other FTO in the country. Other operators can also hire simulator for the purpose of selection of pilots,
continuation of training, IR Checks and Progress Checks to be conducted by their own examiners/check riders. It fully complies with the
new harmonized international standards and some of the main features are listed below:
• Simulates a Cessna 172R single-engine aircraft.
• Enclosed cockpit, physically modelled to represent the real aircraft.
• Dual controls and full IF panel on pilot and co-pilot side for crew coordination training.
• Flight model fully representative of class.
• For basic IF training, it can also be configured as a complex.
• Accurate and realistic control forces, including asymmetric control pressures.
• Visual realism with wrap-around 140° projected vision system.

Professional Career

Anyone wishing to pursue a career as a professional pilot in the world of commercial aviation will require a license
appropriate to the task. This could range from flying on scheduled line service, unscheduled business aviation aircraft,
medevac flights or career instruction to mention but a few of the opportunities in the field of aviation. The modular
training route progresses in stages from the Private Pilot License into the Airline Transport Pilot License, with a number
of licenses and ratings in between the initial and final stages of training. A road map to your career as a Commercial
Pilot is given below:-
• The next step is to earn a Multi Engine Rating. A Commercial Pilot Licence and Class 1 Medical are prerequisites.
The Multi Engine Rating requires a total of 8 hours flight time and a Check Ride by the Instructor.
• The last step is to earn an Airline Transport Pilot Licence. An Instrument Rating, Commercial Pilot Licence, Multi
Engine Rating and Class 1 Medical are prerequisites. The Airline Transport Pilot Licence requires a total of 1500
hours flight time and a Check Ride by the Instructor.

• The first step is to get registered with us and get a Student Pilot License. Class 2 Medical and Security Clearance
are prerequisites.

• The next step is to earn a Private Pilot Licence. This requires a minimum of 40 hours of flight training plus 12 weeks
of ground school instructions.

• The next step is to earn a Commercial Pilot Licence. A Private Pilot Licence and Class 1 Medical are prerequisites.
The CPL requires a total of 150 hours flight time (including time logged as PPL), plus another 12 weeks of Commercial
Pilot Ground School instructions.

• The next step is to get Instrument Rating. A Commercial Pilot Licence and Class 1 Medical are prerequisites.
The Instrument Rating requires a total of 40 hours flight time (20 Hours on Simulator and 20 Hours on Aircraft).

Private Pilot License (PPL) Course:

A PPL allows you to do private flights, and to train further for a Commercial Pilots Licence (CPL) in order to work commercially as a
pilot. Training can be done on a full-time or part-time basis.
PREREQUISITES
• Age: Minimum 17 Years
• Flying: 40 Hours (35 Hours on Cessna 162/172 & 5 Hours on Simulator)
• Hours to be completed in: 8 Months
• Medical: PCAA approved Class 2 Medical
• Technical Exams: CAA Examinations
• Validity of Examination: 1year
• Validity of PPL: Valid for 24 months, subject to medical fitness and recent flying experience.

The Student Pilots, while undergoing the training for the issue of PPL, shall also undergo ground training in the following subjects:

AERONAUTICAL EXPERIENCE
INTEGRATED COURSE:
• Flight training - 40 hours.
• Duration - 8 months, starting from the issue of SPL.
MODULAR COURSE:

• Flight training - 50 hours.

• There is no time limit for this course; however the student pilot must have flown 10 hours in the 3 months
preceding the issue of PPL.

Askari Flying Academy reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to terminate student’s enrolment in the event the student Feedback/Evaluation

Complaints
Askari Flying Academy maintains a supportive and fair environment, which allows training participants to lodge complaints
or appeal their assessments and recognition decisions. Complaints and appeals are ideally resolved as amicably as
possible using this formal process. This means that our complaints process is:

• Accessible so you can lodge complaints by phone, electronically or in writing.

• Fair and protect your rights.
• Handled in a manner that protects your privacy.
• Transparent, equitable, objective and unbiased.
• Implemented effectively and efficiently to ensure complaints and appeals are resolved within an acceptable timeframe.
• Monitored, recorded and reported to the appropriate people.
• An input or trigger point to our continuous improvement process.

Student complaints are submitted to the Student Welfare Officer who will help in resolving the complaint.
Where verbal complaints regarding professional education are received, they can be discussed with the Instructor and
preferably resolved. Complaints about the organisation can be directed to the General Manager / Chief Executive Officer.
