INTRODUCTION

Electronic gadgets like video games, internet, and phones has become widely

and unrestrictedly used tools. These gadgets have become a central forces that fuels

the rhythm of daily life. In our present generations, students are obsessed in using

gadgets. It is an undeniable fact that many of the gadgets have negative effects and

influence upon the quality of students performance in many ways.

According to Claire Gellespie that electronic gadgets offers many advantage to

students; greater access to information increase opportunities for collaboration.

However, the effects of gadget are not always positive. Overuse of technology through

gadgets like smartphones, ipads and video games may interfere with a students

attendance ability and interest in learnings. Persistent use of gadgets encourages a

sedentary lifestyle and may lead poor posture and weight gain and wrist hand pain.

Students tend to involve more time using gadget rather than studying, that may

affect the students study habits and academic performance. Students who become

addicted to gaming, texting or social media may try to do this in the classroom, which

may disrupt. Ongoing classes and if caught will lead to a disciplinary proceedings, can

ruin their future.

These gadgets on student can be the fact that they can become obsessive and

the student can neglect everything else, like their social life, their family and friends. It is

not a bad thing to have a computer or gadgets inventions, But it’s bad thing to spend all

your life in front of it pretending that everything doesn’t exist. We must have limitation in

everything we do.

Although the use of tech-gadgets and service has many positive impacts, they are

short lived. In long run it has negative impacts on the individuals. The digital activities

make the youth strong in technical skills but make them weak in real life practical skills.

It takes the young mass away from the reality helping them to lived in their imaginary

world. Due to the time spent on the device s the youth are refrained from some outdoor

activities with friends and family. The indulgence in violent games may create more

violence in their mind. The more they use the gadgets, the more they are crazy about it

which may distract them from study. During the time of playing games when they can’t

achieved the set target, it may raise their anxious level higher. After all addiction to the

devices may develop unhealthy lifestyle, poor time management and poor eating

habbits among the youths. It would have been a lot better if the drawbacks or negative

impacts of the use of digital device would have been known before some years. As the

use of digital services has negative impact students should minimize the use of these

tools and should aware about its use (Walsh, 2012)

The voracious use of tech services has negative impact on the youth. Due to these

effects students want to do things faster, easier and cheaply. Everybody want to do

things according to their own schedule and pace, failing in which they become anxious.

Face to face communication is avoided by the young mass, which is not good for the

society. (Erickson, 2012)

The addictive internet use has negative impact to mental health. There is a positive

relation between gadget addiction and psychiatric disorder like depression, bipolar

disorder, obsessive –compulsive disorder, attention deficit disorder, ect. So the

addictive internet use should need clinical help. (Young 2000)

It’s tragic every time our phone doesn’t have load or our internet connection at home is

bad, we feel “disconnected” from the world. It make us feel like we’re standing on a

deserted island with the other islands being far away and unreachable. It feels like there

is so little we do, all because we can’t text or call and we can’t google anything we need

to know right now. It’s sad because we shouldn’t be thinking that way. Of course, this is

not to belittle what these technological gismos can do for us. Yes, they are important but

if we seriously think about it, They are not that important. When Jose Rizal was trying to

fight the injustice of the Spaniards, there was no facebook and no twitter upon which to

launch a campaign against the Spanish friars. No cell phones to call others Filipinos

(especially Andres Bonifacio or Gen. Luna) to back him up, And no google to get

information on the people he wanted to do “battle” with. But Rizal

succeeded.(Philippineone01,2017)

Technology has both positive and negative impact some studies fucos on both positive

and negative consequences of use of tech device and services and provide a equalized

approach regarding the use of the same. Technology is an interval part of our everyday

life as people are dependent on it from all over the world or communication,

organization and employment ect. One cannot stay away from the technology even for a

day. Not even a single day goes without a cell phone in hand or without laptop and net

surfing. Although technology being at its best there are basic problems that follows us

everywhere and generally it has drawbacks in the areas of health, public safety and

education.(Saez,2010)

Students should be encourage to develop in a technological world. The necessity of

social networking, computer games or digital habits of them should be understood by

the elders. But simultaneously the consequences of those habits should also be

studied. It’s is better to study the relationship between the technology, child

development and the popular culture. Parents should facilitate a healthy and balanced

relationship between technology and their children helping them to use the social media

effectively(Mitchel,2012)

Review of related study (local)

Excessive use of mobile phones causes students to fare poorly in elementary, junior

high and high school, not only because it makes them lose their concentration due to a

lack of sleep, but also because it apparently compromises what they have studied,

researchers say. Students who spend several hours each day staring into mobile

phones or smart phones tend to change their sleeping habits and stay up late to use the

devices, education ministry research published last week showed. The research was

conducted last November with 23,139 participants from the fifth grade of primary school

up to the third year of high school, at 771 public schools nationwide. It showed, for

instance, that 53.5 percent of junior high students who said they use a mobile phone for

more than four hours a day to talk, send email or surf the Net, habitually do not get to

sleep until after midnight. That ratio was much lower, at 14.9 percent, for those who

don’t use mobile phones at all. The research also found that overusing mobile phones

affects the quality of students’ sleep. Asked if they find it hard to get up in the morning,

78.1 percent of junior high respondents who often watch or use electronic devices,

including TVs, game consoles, mobile phones and computers, immediately before

bedtime said they sometimes or frequently do have trouble the next morning. That

compared with 60.9 percent among those who don’t use gadgets at all.

METHODOLOGY

This chapter introduces on how details will be collected through some of the methods.

The details will be collected through research design, respondents of the study,

sampling, data gathering procedures, data gathering instrument and statistical

treatment. This chapter will be dedicated to the evaluation of the methods and

procedures done in order to obtain the data, how they will be analyzed, interpreted and

how the conclusion will be met.

RESPONDENTS OF THE STUDY

This study was conducted in order to know the effects of gadget addiction in Agsam

Integrated School students. In order to gather the necessary data, the researcher

utilized the evaluation method, using quantitative approaches. A total of 40 respondents

were randomly selected as participants. The survey questionnaire was the research

instrument used for data gathering. The data of the study will gathered according to the

following steps.

PROCEDURE

The gathered data will be analyzed by the researcher thoroughly. The students who

have been chosen in this study accomplished a survey questionnaire to evaluate the

effects of gadgets addiction. The results of the survey were then processed by

computing the Person correlation of each survey item. The computed values were

compared to likert scale for the data interpretation.
