1. Identify and describe 4 technologies available in the classroom where your
Practicum is taking place. (For example iPads, Chrome book computers, Smart
Board, Document Camera, CD player, projector, classroom speaker system, etc.)
In my practicum classroom there are a variety of technologies that are available. The
first technology that is available would be the chrome books, these are a class set that
are about 10 computers that are used during lessons. Secondly, there is a projector in
the room that projects on to a white board, she then uses the white board to write on the
projection. The third technology that is used in the classroom is the Desktop computer,
this is used more by the teacher as she puts up different videos, songs, uses class dojo,
for this in the front of the class, and projects them from the computer on the whiteboard.
Lastly, there was a classroom speaker system that was used during group time or
videos, since the class is large this way students all around in different areas can hear.
2. Describe how the teacher, you are observing, uses the technology available in
the classroom.
Please give 2 examples and identify content areas (such as math, English, science,
social studies, reading, etc.) where the technology is being used
The teacher that I observed used a variety of tools in her classroom that involved
technology during the time I was present, there were two main areas I saw technology
being used. During literacy groups the classroom is put into separate groups of3-4
students, each having a station, one of them is Chromebook. The chrome books that
are used allow students to use the website Starfall, this allows students to learn their
alphabet and phonics. The second time that I saw technology being used was during
math, the students were able to use IXL math on the chrome books again, this allows
Throughout the school as a whole, there are a variety of technological tools that are
used, some of these are a copy machine, radio, laminator, and computers. The copy
machines are both used by the staff, one is in the library copy room and one is in the
main office. The radios are used by all staff members to easily communicate throughout
the school, if the teacher needs assistance they will radio for help. The laminator is
located in the main office copy room and is used by teachers to laminate important
papers, make shift white boards, and for letters. Lastly, each of the teachers in their
classroom has their own desktop computer to use for classroom purposes, and making
In the classroom that I was observing there were not any ELL or Special needs
students. However, for myself I would use a tablet or chromebook to help instruct ELL
students, this way I can provide ample pictures and examples, and even have
translations included on the ipad in necessary. Using an ipad for ELL students is very
adaptive and allows for those students to have a chance of having a voice. Another way
I would use technology to instruct ELL or Special Need student would be using assistive
touch, this allows students of special needs to have a way to communicate. But it does
much more than this, depending on the needs of the student this allows students to
have their own voice, they can communicate with other students, answer questions, and
5. Identify and describe 3 technology tools you would like to incorporate into your
own classroom. (Examples: Tablets, Laptops, SmartBoard, Doc Cam, Ozobot, Sphero,
OSMO etc.).
Describe how you would use each of these technologies, as tools, to teach classroom
content, such as math, English, science, social studies, etc. Or to use as a tool to re-
teach a concept and provide additional practice.
Thinking about my own classroom and from what I have learned about technologies this
semester I have ideas of ways to incorporate them into the classroom. To begin I would
first off want to have an ipad in the classroom, this would ultamitly be used by myself, or
if I allow students to do something specific. But with an ipad I would be able to share
documents and project material to a board. This allows students in say math to
complete problems at their desks, and as I walk around and see the inventions, I can
stop and take a quick picture of the students work to show the class. This makes the
time more efficient but also allows the students to not be as called out on the spot to
stand in front of the class and explain their work. Another technology that I would want
to incorporate in my own classroom would be Osmo, this is because from the class I
saw that there were a variety of games that can be a joined with the Osmo. This would
be something the students would be able to use my ipad for (if multiple for the class is
possible that is ideal). Since osmo has so many different types of additions, I could use
it in math, music, STEAM, and ultimately will allow students to become comfortable with
coding and technology while they are also having fun and playing a game. The last
technology that I would use in my classroom would be lap tops because although an
ipad is nice this does not help to teach students about a computer and how to type. I
recently learned that by the third grade students are expected to know how to type on a
computer for standardized test, therefore If I am k-3 I would want to have laptops
available in my classroom, I would be able to use them in math for IXL, science for
research, and English for reading. Overall having these three technologies in the
the class.
6. Please list 3 apps or websites that you plan to use in your classroom.
Describe how you would use them with your students, along with the content areas
these apps or websites, would be helpful in?
When I have my own classroom I would plan to us technology in it, however the types of
apps or websites may depend on the district that I am place in. However, from my
current knowledge I know that I would want to use IXL Math website, Classdojo, and the
app kahoot. I would use IXL Math in correlation to the math curricula that I will be
teaching, it is a great way for students to practice their math skills. This is a site that can
keep track of individual students’ scores and gives me and parents feedback on their
progress, and the website can be accessed from home or school, this holds the
students responsible for practicing their math skills. I would also use the app/site
with parents, post information, share photos, and also award points to students, this
would also be a way to take attendance. If I was able to have the class do different
projects or assignments using this I would, however, this depends on the number of
tablets/computers available to me, the specific areas I would use this for would be
reading or English, this way parents are able to see students’ progress. I would also use
the app/website kahoot, in order to elicit classroom participation from students and get
them thinking while turning it into a fun game. Kahoot allows students to work
individually, together, or in small groups, and these are normally a variety of questions
that I would make. I would use this specifically for warm ups or reviews in class, I would
Language objectives have effected education in many ways they help to identify specific
skills, listening, reading, speaking, and lastly writing. Language objectives can be made
for any subject or topic and help to identify specific language or vocabulary that will be
would be, students will be able to properly explain their code created for osmo, students
will be able to use google slides to collaborate and make a short presentation on their
favorite app, students will be able to code ozobot to spell out weekly vocab words. All of
these different language objectives are related to technology and language, it shows
that language and technology go together and can help to teach. In general these
language objectives have changed the way that many tasks are done in education, and
allows for more collaboration and discoveries, and also brings in the fact that students
8. Please identify 1 of the 6, student related, ISTE standards, that you plan to
implement in your future classroom. http://www.iste.org/standards/for-
students (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. (Remember to write
the standard, you've chosen, in your own words or cite the copied standard at the end of
your responses to this question).
A. Following backward design principles, construct an assessment plan for ONE of the
learning objectives. Be sure to identify the assessment approach (e.g., selective
response, essay)
Students will be able to responsibly code sphero in a safe and innovative way to paint a
picture. The types of assessment that I will be using to measure whether students have
B. Briefly describe the design of the assessment you will use in the classroom, in at
least 3-4 sentences.
In this assessment I would be assessing the students on their performance, this would
safely use sphero with their partners to paint, the task will be to paint anything that they
can see inside or outside (window) the classroom. They would be responsible for
choosing a design that they can code sphero to paint. Then they would be responsible
for putting the rubber cover on sphero and then painting. The students will be asked to
this task, other than answer questions because prior to this lesson we will have already
used sphero and students will be comfortable using it. However, now it will be their task
to do it themselves in a group and work together and use innovation and creativity.
C. Describe how your assessment will provide you with evidence that the students have
learned.
The assessment will provide me with evidence that the students have learned because I
will be assessing their painting and how well they were able to code sphero. If I see that
the students painting is missing parts or a blob’ I would be able to see from the task that
they most likely had a coding error. Overall, this performance assessment will be done
in small groups and the students’ performance will provide me with evidence of
for themselves and explain their process is important, for this instance there are a
variety of ways for students to display their understanding. One way that I have seen
student voice would be during literature time the students were tasked with making a
melted snowman, but first they had to write a sentence about how their snowman
melted. Then they had to tell me or the teacher why they wrote what they did and why,
this way students were able to have a voice and we can see their thinking process. The
last part of this was publishing the work, which in this case was hanging the melted
B. Please identify 2 web-based technologies, you have learned about in this class, that
could be used for student voice. Describe how they would help you discover student
understanding of a particular concept.
There are many types of web-based technologies that help to enhance the ability of
student voice and the chance for it to even occur. Using a website or place for students
to publish their work allows for student’s voice and other students to learn from another.
I would use the class website ClassDojo for this reason because you are able to post
and make assignments on the website, then release them to the students, this aspect
allows students to make their own work individually then we can come together and
students can see others projects and work done, this also allows for students to explain.
I would also use the Educlipper, this is a site that allows teacher to share creations with
coworkers or whom they choose, however, it is also a site that allos students to publish
work. This is a great way for students to be able to voice their work and also see other
student work, learning from each other. When the students are assigned projects on
educlipper I would ensure that after each one we would have a meaningful conversation
about the work, what they discovered, and we would relate it to material in class.
10. Take a few minutes to consider what you have learned, this semester, in the
technology course. Write a paragraph reflecting on your experience and how it has
changed your thinking, about technology, and its usefulness in the classroom. This is an
open-ended question, you may write about any topic you choose.
Coming into the technology class, I was unaware of the many resources that have been
made available and all of the tools that can be used to enhance your teaching. After this
course I have learned a variety of ways that I can incorporate technology use in my
classroom, although it will depend on the district. However, with this in mind I also
learned that just because your school does not have technology does not mean you
cannot provide opportunities using technology for your students, there are ways to apply
to classroom grants and you can get ipads for the class. I also learned from this class
that as we are incorporating more technology into the classrooms, we are going to need
to know basics about coding. Before this class I thought that coding was a complicated
task that I would never understand, but by starting with these games and small robots
like osmo, sphero and more I was able to understand easily how they work. This made
it apparent that as we are growing and learning that we need to teach student to code,
and this doesn’t have to be a daunting task, in fact this can bring out new learners in
students, peaking interest in them that nothing else may. Which takes into another
factor that I came out learning form this class, that technology is only a barrier is you
allow it to be. Using it to benefit your classroom and students learning would best help
them. Overall, I have gained much knowledge about technology used in an elementary
classroom, learning how to use it to your advantage and better the learning of them,
