EPS Final Draft

As a teacher we have the most important job in the world, preparing the future. Growing

up we all had people that we looked up to. We look for examples to follow, examples to make us

great. This is one key factor as to why I am motivated to become a teacher. I want to serve as a

person that I would look up to. As the famous saying is, “Be who you needed when you were

younger.” This is who I want to become. The number one purpose in my book for teaching

would be to show our students love. All students come from different backgrounds. Everyone

has a different story in this world. We sometimes have no idea what our students are going home

to. This is why I find it very important to express our love towards our students. People of all

different walks of life all can feel love no matter their experiences. In this we show students how

much they matter to not only us but those that surround them. We show them that they are

worthy and that they have so much potential to go out and do great things in this world we live

in. We need to motivate them with this unwavering and unconditional love. Not only show them

love but they also need to love themselves. Self worth is a very important factor in a students

life. We need to teach them to love themselves for who they are.

As teachers we need to realize that we are literally preparing for the future. Our students

are the future of our world. They are the ones that one day will be making the big decisions that

we have to make. They are the ones that will have to deal with situations that we have never

dreamed about dealing with. They are the ones that have to take care of what previous
generations have created. They will also have to deal with the consequences of previous

generations. This is why it is very important that we equip them with the right tools to go out and

be successful in this world.

One of things to run a classroom effectively is to have core principles to go off of. My

number one principle would be to treat my students equally. Some teachers may look at this and

say, “here comes a new teacher that wants to be best friends with his students”. I would then ask

this teacher how their relationship with their students are, my guess is it probably wouldn’t be

the best relationship. When we treat our students as equals this allows them to realize that they

are important. If they go home and are treated as a person that is lower than others and comes to

school and experiences the same thing, they will believe that they are lower than others. Equality

is something thatI believe in and this is one way that I will implement it in my classroom. With

the responsibility of being treated as an equal come the respect that they have to display with

that. My number one rule in my classroom will be to respect others. By this students will be able

to realize that when they give respect they will receive respect. This will serve as a lifelong

lesson that I believe some students don’t get great examples of at home. We are noticing that as

time goes on that students are being raised in households that were less stable than those of the

past. As an educator I find it my job to make up for this. Some teachers may say that it isn’t their

job, but I tell you that I am coming to become a teacher not only to give students an education on

my subject, but I also want to give them an education on how to be successful.

When I say that I want to teach students how to be successful I plan on teaching them in a

way that they will truly learn things. I have had plenty of teachers in the past that would force

knowledge into us only to take a test and completely forget about it the second after the test. I

want my teaching style to be done in a way that they will apply it in their day to day lives. I hope
to make an impact on students that could be life altering on how they view education. I hope that

the content I teach my students will stick with them and be things that they truly did learn.

I believe that putting all of these different purposes, principles, and understanding of

what real learning is will bring me to a successful combination of how to teach my students. I

will treat them with respect, show them love, and teach them how to truly learn. I will integrate

activities such as action-based learning and technology that will engage my students. Ultimately

I will strive to be that person that I needed when I was younger.
