Read the text carefully then do the activities.
Magnets have a special power that enables them to attract other magnetic things such as iron,
steel, cobalt and nickel. Magnets have two main forces - push and pull. Magnetism (the invisible
force) can push and pull even through some materials such as paper and plastic. Paper clips are made
of steel. If you hold a paper clip close to a magnet, you can feel the magnet pulling on the paper clip
with an invisible force called magnetism. All magnets have two ends or poles (North & South). If
you put the poles of two magnets together, they will either pull together or push apart. They will pull
each other if the poles are different. They will push each other if the poles are the same.
Experiments with magnets will help you to find out more about the way magnetism works and
how it can be passed on to some other objects. Look for magnets in old toys or on fridge stickers, or
buy a bar or horseshoe magnet from a toy shop and try to do this experiment by your own at home.
c- The poles of two magnets will push each other if the poles are the same.
d- All magnets have just one end or pole.
3. Answer the following questions according to the text:
a) What will happen if you hold a paper clip close to a magnet?
b) How many poles or ends do the magnets have?
c) If the poles are different, will they push each other? Justify your answer?
4. The text is: a/ Narrative b/ expository c/ prescriptive

1- Find in the text words that are synonyms to the following: (1 pts)
a) Power§1 = ………… b) attract §1 = …………
2- Find in the text a word whose definition is:
a) A physical property of some metals like iron that causes forces between objects (push or pull) = …….
3- Derive adjectives from the following words. Repulsion / attract / magnet.
4- Put the verbs between brackets in the correct tense.
When we (to place) an iron ball that weighs ten pounds in air, we (to discover) that under
water this ball (to weigh) only eight pounds and the volume of water that spilled over weighs two
pounds, which equals the ball’s loss of weight because the ball (to buoy) by a force- that of buoyancy.
Topic 01: Your school life is full of scientific experiments. In no more than 15 lines tell us about what
you did or saw ( in Physics, Biology or chemistry) such as water cycle…..water properties …..charges..
These notes may help you: - Introduce the experiment/ Hypothesis/ Describe the steps of it/ Report the
results.
Topic Two: Suppose that your friend needs your advice. s/he suffers from anxiety, stress, sadness and/
or lost of self confidence. Write a letter in which you express your sympathy and give him/her some
recommendations.
My best wishes,
