4.Procedures
4.1 Introductory Activity Present the following video of the one-act play “The Dictionary
(7 minutes) Salesman” by Clarice Rebecca R. Ramos in class. Let the students
observe the characters, setting, plot, and dialogues used in the play.

4.2 Activity Group Activity


(10 minutes)
Each group will be tasked to share among themselves, and then to the
whole class, their observation and insights about the video presented
with regards to the following:
 characters (Group 1 will share to the class)
 setting (Group 2 will share to the class)
 plot (Group 3will share to the class)
 dialogues (Group 4 will share to the class)
4.3 Analysis Process Questions:
(8 minutes) 1. Describe the play’s characters, setting, plot, and dialogues.
2. Based on the video of “The Dictionary Salesman”, how do you
define a one-act play?

4.4 Abstraction One-Act Play


(8 minutes)
One-act play has only one division as distinct from plays that occur over
several acts. There is a complete drama within one act.

Characteristics:
Brief, condensed, and single in effect
One situation is presented
There should be no minor plots or side actions that may distract
attention for the single purpose or effect
Characters are few in number, quickly introduced, and very
limited in development
4.5 Application Individual Activity:
(10 minutes)
Instructions:
Think of a situation for a one-act play that you want to write about. On
a piece of paper, write your:
a. desired characters (at most 4-5),
b. setting,
c. plot, and
d. the topic for the dialogue.

*Note: Provide a list of playwriting starters and creative writing ideas


for examples or reference (see Attachment: Playwriting Starters and
Creative Writing Ideas, or if you have the book, photocopy the specified
pages).
4.6 Assessment Group Activity (5 members each)
(15 minutes)
Instructions:
1. Within your group, share your potential situations and brainstorm
on a scene for a one-act play that the whole group will develop.
Come up with ideas involving:
 the details of the characters, including their relationship and the
nature of the problem being explored
 the topic they are talking about
 the problem that arises in their conversation
 the time and background of the conversation, i.e. the setting
 how the play starts and how it ends

4.7 Assignment Instructions:


(1 minute) From the same grouping, imagine the characters of your group’s one-
● Enhancing the day’s act play, while keeping in mind your setting and plot. How do they look
lesson like? Provide details of their physical features, clothes and accessories,
among others. If you can, sketch a still image of a part of the scene you
would like to focus on (characters interacting, mood/emotion evident,
background, etc.).
4.8 Concluding Activity “Life is not a one act play.” – Alex M. Smith
(1 minute)

5. REMARKS Indicate below special cases including but not limited to continuation
of lesson plan to the following day in case of re-teaching or lack of
time, transfer of lesson to the following day, in cases of classes
suspension, etc.

6. REFLECTIONS Reflect on your teaching and assess yourself as a teacher. Think


about your student’s progress this week. What works? What else
needs to be done to help the students learn? Identify what help your
instructional supervisors can provide for you so when you meet them,
you can ask them relevant questions. Indicate below whichever is/are
