PART 1. COMPUTER JARGON

Search the meaning of the following jargons and write your answer.

1.) START UP- A startup program is a program or application that runs

automatically after the system has booted up.

2.) BOOT - The boot menu allows a user to select what device to load an

operating system or application from as the computer is booting. If desired,

the order of the devices listed in the boot menu, also called

the boot sequence, can be changed, so that the computer always tries

to boot to the hard drive or a CD/DVD drive.

3.) DEVICE- A device is a unit of physical hardware or equipment that

provides one or more computing functions within a computer system. It can

provide input to the computer, accept output or both.

4.) DRIVERS- A device driver or hardware driver is a group of files that enable

one or more hardware devices to communicate with

the computer's operating system.

5.) PROGRAM UTILITY - A utility or software utility is computer system software

intended to analyze, configure, monitor, or help maintain a computer.


6.) CONFIGURATION- A utility or software utility is computer system software

7.) OPERATING SYSTEM- An operating system (OS), in its most general sense, is

software that allows a user to run other applications on a computing device.

8.) GRAPICAL USER INTERFACE (GUI)- A graphical user interface (GUI) is a

human-computer interface that uses windows, icons and menus and which

can be manipulated by a mouse.

9.) COMMAND LINE INTERFACE (CLI)- A command line interface (CLI) is a textbased user interface (UI)
used to view and manage computer files.

10.) REGISTRY EDITOR- The Windows Registry is a hierarchical database that

stores low-level settings for the Microsoft Windows operating system and for

applications that opt to use the registry.

11.) APPLET- An applet is a small Internet-based program written in Java, a

programming language for the Web, which can be downloaded by any

computer. The applet is also able to run in HTML.

12.) WINDOWS FIREWALL- Windows Firewall is a Microsoft Windows

application that filters information coming to your system from the Internet

and blocking potentially harmful programs.

13.) WIZARD- A wizard is a feature that guides the user through the

installation or setup of a software program or hardware device.

14.) BACK UP- Backup refers to the copying of physical or virtual files or

databases to a secondary location for preservation in case of equipment

failure or catastrophe.

15.) N ETWORK- A computer network is a set of computers connected

together for the purpose of sharing resources. The most common resource

shared today is connection to the Internet.


PART 2: MICROSOFT SYSTEM CONFIGURATION

Steps on how to access System Configuration

>>> Open the System Configuration tool by using the Run window (all Windows

versions) The Run window offers one of the fastest ways to open the System

Configuration tool. Simultaneously press the Windows + R keys on your keyboard to

launch it, type "msconfig", and then press Enter or click/tap on OK.

PART 3: Identification: Observed the Microsoft System Configuration: Tools Tab

then write the function of the given diagnostic tools below.

1. EVENT VIEWER- Event Viewer is especially useful for troubleshooting Windows

and application errors.

2. ACTION CENTER- Lets you know when your computer system needs

your attention. Allows the user to have a centralized place to check

any system alerts and troubleshoot the computer.

3. SYSTEM INFORMATION- There are various functions of information

systems like the collection of input data, storage, processing, and producing the

output information.

4. Command Prompt- Command Prompt is a command line interpreter

application available in most Windows operating systems.

5. Task Manager- Windows Task Manager enables you to monitor the

applications, processes, and services currently running on your PC.

6. Performance Monitor- Performance Monitor counters collect and present

information about the system performance.

7. Resource Monitor- A utility in Windows Vista and later, displays information

about the use of hardware (CPU, memory, disk, and network) and software (file

handles and modules) resources in real time.


8. Remote Assistance- Remote Assistance is a Windows feature that allows a

support team (or helper) to provide technical support to a remote user (host).

9. Registry Editor- administrators can make changes to ... incorrectly, the

computer's operating system may cease to function.

10. Programs - In programming, a named section of a program that performs a

specific task. In this sense, a function is a type of procedure or routine.

Part 1. Direction Write the steps on how to access the DirectX Diagnostic Tool

(5pts.)

Press the Windows key + R to open the Run command box. Type dxdiag and

press Enter. This will open DirectX Diagnostic Tool immediately. The System tab lists

the general information about your system and most importantly what version

of DirectX you currently have installed.
