WELDING SIMULATOR

1.1 OBJECTIVES

The objectives of this laboratory are;

1. Perform the Welding Simulator Welding Machine in order to perform joining process.

2. Investigate the effect of welding parameters such as arc current, arc length, voltage and
travel speed on the welding conditions.

3. Analyse the welding defect of the welding bead regarding to welding analysis report.

1.2 INTRODUCTION

Arc welding is a type of welding that uses a welding power supply to create an electric
arc between an electrode and the base material to melt the metals at the welding point. They
can use either direct (DC) or alternating (AC) current, and consumable or non-consumable
electrodes. The welding region is usually protected by some type of shielding gas, vapor, or
slag.

The welding simulator with augmented reality training system is the most advanced
and realistic welding simulation in the world. It allows repeatedly practice technique without
any additional costs, as well as minimising physical risks and gas emissions. Augmented
reality (AR) is a live direct or indirect view of a physical, real world environment whose
elements are augmented (or supplemented) by computer generated sensory input such as
sound, video and graphics. By contrast, virtual reality replaces the real world with a simulated
one. With the help of advanced AR technology the information about the surrounding real
world of the user becomes interactive and digitally manipulated.

1.3 SETUP

1. Welding Trainer power source

2. Welding Plate (Butt Joint, Lap Joint, T- Joint, pipe T-Joint and pipe Butt Joint)

3. Welding Torch ( SMAW electrode)

4. Augmented Reality face shield

1.4 EXPERIMENTAL PROCEDURE

1. Each student need to create individual account in Teacher Software.

2. Open individual account at welding trainer power source

3. Select the welding plate (one plate only)

4. Start welding process by following guide at Augmented Reality face shield

position.

5. Analysis of welding parameter and welding defect by referring in Analysis
