Abstract:

Being a sikad-sikad driver doesn't need educational attainment but not all drivers end up being
a sikad-sikad driver because they never finished their studies and as our interview goes on we
encountered one of the sikad-sikad drivers who finished his studies as a Marine Engineering. He
ended up being a sikad-sikad driver because for him it is easier to earn money than going to the
office and have a minimum salary that can't sustain his family's needs. For the sikad-sikad
drivers, it is one of the fastest ways for them to earn, support their family's daily needs.

The objective of the study is to interview 15-20 sikad-sikad drivers in naval town. The
interviewers used a questionnaire and at the same time record the activity for the interviewees
to have their answers detailed. The study aimed to understand and know the ways of life of a
sikad-sikad driver.

1. INTRODUCTION:

The study is recommending the dreams and needs of the sikad-sikad driver’s in Naval Biliran,

3. The reason why they end up being a Sikad-sikad driver.

4. METHODOLOGY:

about themselves and their sikad-sikad, and asked to give a short explanation why chose to be
a sikad-sikad driver?

sikad driver helped them in their daily needs, to know if and possible also ask about their
operators.

3.1.3 Logbook:

A number of drivers (20 persons) were asked as the qualified respondent regarding their
experience of being a sikad-sikad driver given in the Naval town. The aim of this study was to
know their ways of life most especially their years of service being a sikad-sikad driver, their
daily profit, the reason why they end up being a sikad-sikad driver and if being a sikad-sikad
driver helped them in their daily needs. Their diary gives us knowledge about their ways of
living being sikad-sikad driver.

 3.1.4 In-depth interviews with test drivers:

These interviews were carried out on a smaller sample, 20 of the sikad-sikad drivers. These
sikad sikad drivers are resident in Naval Biliran, in other words, talking about the numbers of
sikad-sikad drivers are concerned, in a little description, for the Naval, is a Municipality of the
Province of Biliran is an extensive community in which the main transportation is "Sikad-sikad".
As recorded in the Municipal office, there are about 329 sikad-sikad drivers registered. The
three major operators of sikad-sikad in Naval are Nasida, Natrida and Navped having 373, 158
and 49 registered sikad-sikad respectively.

4. RESULTS:

We have successfully interviewed 16 sikad-sikad drivers and attached in this research are their
answers in the questionnaires. Most of the sikad-sikad drivers are male. The sikad-sikad drivers
we had interviewed mostly are in their 5-30 years of service. Their daily income ranges around
100-500php maximum. Their educational attainment mostly is elementary level, we have some
in high school level, also college level and we had interviewed one who had never gone to
school. Most of the sikad-sikad drivers we interviewed have their operators and some operate
their own. The interviews main objective is to know why they end up being a sikad-sikad driver
and most of their answers are to support their family. Some answered that it is easier for them
to earn money 200-500 per day than to apply as government employee having a salary of 100-
250 per day and by that they can sustain their family’s needs.

 6. CONCLUSIONS:

The ways of life of being a sikad-sikad driver are not easy. For the sikad-sikad drivers, it is one
of the fastest ways for them to earn, support their family's daily needs and also they can send
their children to school. Being a sikad-sikad driver doesn't need educational attainment but not
all drivers end up being a sikad-sikad driver because they never finished their studies and as our
interview goes on we encountered one of the sikad-sikad drivers who finished his studies as a
Marine Engineering. He ended up being a sikad-sikad driver because for him it is easier to earn
money than going to the office and have a minimum salary that can't sustain his family's needs.
Sikad-sikad drivers mostly enjoyed being a driver because for them it is that one thing who
helped them and their families. Also being a sikad-sikad driver has no age limit and anyone can
be a sikad-sikad driver.

7. Recommendation:

Based on the findings and conclusions of the study, the subsequent are recommendations
young sikad-sikad drivers known by Naval Biliran Province are going to be given attention
by government, welfare cluster having to seem at the probabilities of ascension the economic
lifetime of the poor sikad-sikad drivers, and any analysis is being conducted on the survival
mechanism of Sikad-sikad drivers due to their vital signs insistence on the role of the Family.
