Normal Takeoff and Climb

Cadet vs. Seminole

1. Lineup checklist complete Basically the same with the addition of mixture rich and strobes.

Pilot’s window closed, fuel pumps on, mixtures rich, landing light on,
strobes on, recognition light on, transponder to alt., cabin door secure.
2. Taxi into takeoff position Same.
3. Full throttle Same, but with constant speed prop, you will see 2700 RPM.
4. Check engine instruments Same
5. Airspeed rising Same
6. Rotate at 75 knots Same, just different airspeed.
7. Hold approximately 10° Slightly higher pitch.
nose up
8. Climb out at Vy (88 knots) Faster airspeed than Cadet
9. Gear up (positive rate) Hey that’s new! Don’t retract the gear until there is no more useable
runway.
10. At 500 ft., pitch to The main difference here is that we set climb power instead of leaving
approximately 5°, in full throttle. Otherwise, it’s pretty much the same concept.
accelerate to 105 knots,
and adjust power to 25”
manifold pressure and
2500 RPM.
11. Perform climb check New items: Gear up and cowl flaps as necessary.

Climb power – set

Gear – verified up
Flaps – verified up
Landing Light/Recognition Light – off
Fuel Pumps – off (one at a time and verify pressure!)
Cowl Flaps – as required
Normal Approach and Landing

Cadet vs. Seminole

1. Approach Checklist Approach checklist basically the same, but with one new item
Completed
2. Slow to Vref+35 Same as Cadet, only now the Vref speed is 75 knots and we have to
achieve the airspeed by setting both the throttle and propeller controls.

3. On downwind establish Somewhat different, but the same concept as the Cadet.

fpm, extending the gear = -300 fpm for a total of approx -500 fpm
descent.

100 knots, 10° flaps, gear down, (16”/2300 RPM), -500 fpm descent
6. At 60° point turn base, We turn base at the same 60° point as with the Cadet, but unlike the

final instead of a square base.
7. On final set final landing

maintain 3° glidepath.
