Introduction
Introduce topic Obesity in the ASEAN countries

Credibility This topic is the most concerned issue throughout the global and I
have done some research on it.
Background of topic According to the latest estimates from the World Health Organisation
(WHO), almost 14% of the country’s citizens fall under the ‘obese’
category. A further 40% are overweight. In the last 45 years, fat and
sugar intake has increased by 80% and 33% respectively.
Central Idea Obesity is influenced by factors such as rising income, urbanisation,
shifting lifestyles and genetic aspects.
Body
(Describing chart[s] and/or graph[s])
Description of data
1. The first bar chart shows the percentage of overweight
(Chart 1) population with BMI>=25 among the ASEAN countries.

2. Malaysia recorded the most overweight and obese population.

3. However, among other ASEAN countries, Vietnam ranks last

with population at estimate 24%.

Analysis of data 4. It shows that female in Malaysia ranks the highest at 38-39
percent, and follows by the Male at 36 percent.
(Chart 1)
5. For Vietnam, the charts shows that female is also has the
highest percent at 26% rather than men, 16%.
Description of data 1. The chart shows the total cost of obesity as a percentage of
healthcare spending.
(Chart 2)

2. Malaysia also suffers the highest overall cost for obesity as a

percentage of the country’s healthcare spending.
3. Indonesia ranks second for the healthcare spending, while
Singapore comes third.
Analysis of data 4. Of all the ASEAN countries, Malaysia reported the highest rate
of obesity with 10-20% of the country’s healthcare expenditure
(Chart 2) 5. Indonesia ranks the second highest with costs at 8-16% of
healthcare spending, while Singapore comes third, with costs at
3-10%.
Conclusion
Conclusion Both of the chart shows that Malaysia and Indonesia have the
highest proportion of obese and overweight citizens in ASEAN, and
unsurprisingly, both countries show the highest overall costs of
obesity as a percentage of healthcare spending in the region
Recommendation In my opinion, Malaysian should have take a precautious and be
aware of this issue because eventually it will lead to the type 2
diabetes, cancer, cardiovascular disease, stroke and chronic
diseases
