CHAPTER III

Methodology

This chapter presents the discussion on the the research design and methodology of

the study, also the sampling procedure, the research instrument, data gathering procedure and

the statistical treatment of data.

1. Research Design

The researchers used Quantitative research method because our research is to gather

survey and that is in numerical form such as statistics, percentages etc. It produces information

only on the particular cases studied which is the “Impact of Social media in selecting tourist

destinations on senior high school students in AMA Cavite” and any more general conclusions

are the only hypothesis. Quantitative methods can also be used to verify which hypothesis are

true. A quantitative research is a systematic empirical investigation of observations

phenomena via statistical, mathematical, or computational techniques.

This research employed correlational research design. Burns and Grove (2016) define

a research design as “blueprint for conducting a study with maximum control over factors that

may interfere with the validity of the findings.

Correlational research design is a method in which a researcher measures two

variables, understand and assess the statistical relationships between them with no influence

extraneous variable. This study aimed at collecting information from the senior high school

students of AMA Cavite on the Impacts of Social media in terms of selecting their tourist

destinations.

2. The Sample

Our respondents are the students of AMA Senior High School Cavite. There are seven

(7) strand in senior high school namely, ABM, GAS, TOURISM, HUMMS, ANIMATION,

PROGRAMMING, and STEM. The total number of students in Senior High is nine hundred

ninety-six (996). And our respondents with the total number of two hundred eighty-five (285)

respondents. The researchers used stratified formula to get the number of

Strands # of students Percentage

ABM 156 16% 46

GAS 34 3% 9

TOURISM 68 7% 20

HUMMS 195 20% 57

respondents in each strand that we will need for our research.

3.Research Instrument

The research instrument used in this was a set of structured questionnaire, it came

from the Survey Monkey Questionnaire, and created by Finley, R. et. al, (2019) also it was

modified the following questions. It is a preceded by covering letter, introducing the

researcher, explaining the purpose of the research and soliciting assistance in providing the

required information. The questionnaire as two sections. Section A personal data of the

respondents such as; name, age, sex, class. etc.. While Section B contains fifteen (15)

statement items that were expected to throw light on the research questions and hypothesis.

4.Data Gathering

Before we conduct a survey to Senior High School students of AMA Cavite, we ask

first permission to our School Director, by making a letter. Data were gathered through the

use of questionnaire made by the researchers themselves. The researchers formulated relevant

questions to come up with an efficient questionnaire that help to assess the impact of social

media on the students in terms of selecting their tourist destination. Questionnaires were

personally distributed by the researches to Senior high school students of AMA Cavite.

5. Data Analysis

All data were gathered, tallied, encoded and interpreted using different statistical tool

These include percentage, frequency of distribution which includes mean, median and mode

-stribution were also used in first part of questions such as identifying what form of social

media they use ad how many hours they spend their time in using their social media's, also

what is the places they are love to go and what are their basis in selecting a most influencial

tourist destination in Cavite. We used certain statistical treatment which is the pearson's r in

order to get the desired results in assessing the significant relationship between the use of

social media in selecting tourist destination of the selected senior high school students in AMA

Cavite.
