The learner demonstrates understanding of Afro-Asian

The learner transfers learning by composing and
delivering a persuasive speech based on a specific

effective use of parallel structures and cohesive device
and appropriate prosodic features, stance, and
behavior.
At the end of the lesson, the students are expected to:
1. ascertain the key message conveyed in the story
through listening and viewing;

Motivation “AN APPLE OF MIND”


DIRECTION:
There will be a box. The students will
pass it succeedingly with music
accompaniment. When the music stops,
the student holding the box will pick a
piece of paper inside the box and will
answer the question written on it. If he/
she answered the question correctly, there
would be a piece of picture that I will
post on the board. The activity will
continue until all the images are given
and formed.

I have here five apples of words and all
you have to do is to find the leaf that
corresponds to the right definition given
from the apple of words.

the screen and he/she will pick up one
apple of words and he/she must find the
leaf that corresponds to the right
definition given from the apple of words.)

Mario- He is the father in the story
husband of Gloria.
Gloria- wife of Mario.

Pablo- the evil man in the story, old


friend of Mario.

About the Author

Alberto S. Florentino is a naturalized


citizen from Manila Philippines. He was
born on July 28, 1931. On 1983 he went
to New York City and lived there for 20
years. For his education he attended U.S.
information service and then at the
University of the East. He also attended
the University of the Philippines and the
Far Eastern University. During his time in
University of the East his work won the
Palanca Award and he was just 23 years
old that time.”

Now class, do you want to hear a story?

Okay, the story that I will tell you is


entitled “The World is an Apple” by
Alberto S. Florentino.
The students will listen to the story.
(The teacher will retell the story in a
creative way)

This is a story about a man and his family


who suffered in extreme poverty. Before
Mario met his wife he was involve in a
dirty work “stealing” until Gloria became
his wife, he changed but God tested his
faith…

When he took his daughter for a walk,


they passed a grocery store that sold
delicious apple, his daughter want him to
buy one, but he couldn’t afford to buy,
because he has no money. When his
daughter felt ill and didn’t eat anything,
Mario decided to steal apple for her
starving and ill daughter, and because of
that he lost his job…

One day he arrived home. Gloria slips her


finger to take some money to buy Tita a
biscuit, but Mario was annoyed and
moved away from his wife. He said that
he has no money because he lost his job
because he steals and his last money was
spent for a woman. Then they began to
quarrel…

Mario told her wife that he had found a


new job, and he is going to meet a friend.
Gloria then became glad after hearing it,
not until Pablo showed up. Gloria hated
Pablo because of his dirty works. She
believed that Mario has changed and will
not go with Pablo to do illegal things, but
she was wrong because Mario already
made his decision to leave with Pablo…

Gloria tries to convince Mario not to go,


and she remind him about God, but Mario
never listens to her. He told her to take
care of herself and that he will be home
safely. Gloria was then left crying with
her daughter.
