ABSTRACT

Our product is “FLARE GUN”. Flare gun is used to slow down the speed of shaft. A disc

brake is a type of brake that uses the calipers to squeeze pairs of pads against a disc or "rotor" to

create friction. This action slows the rotation of a shaft, such as a vehicle axle, either to reduce its

rotational speed or to hold it stationary. This prototype aims at studying the designing of the Disc

brake on software such as CATIA, Fusion 360, etc. We have designed this Disc brake on Fusion

360 software. The Disc brake is designed by rapid prototyping technique. There are many rapid

prototyping techniques but we choose the 3D printing technique which is very easy and fast.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

We would like to express our special thanks of gratitude to the Mechanical Prototype Faculty,
who gave us the golden opportunity to do this conceptual project of Prototyping.

We wish to express our profound thanks to our project guide, Mr. Ashwin Chandore and Mr.
Amol Kolhe for his meticulous planning, the valuable time that he spent with us, discussing our
project ideas.

We also want to thank our School Dean Prof. M. Sentilkumar and Director Dr.Mahesh Gaudar
for providing us with the basic infrastructure and other facilities.

INTRODUCTION OF MECHANICAL PROTOTYPING

Prototyping is a process of building a model or a draft version of an idea. It is a method of

product designing that is used in various applications in mechanical engineering and software
development. It is also a stage where preliminary changes and product fixes occur before
fabrication happens.

Making prototypes is an essential part of product development process. New product designs
generally undergo several prototyping processes before they are released for production.

CONCEPT PRESENTATION

Problem Statement: To make mechanism that will be helpful in sending signal and making
communication during emergencies, floods, earth quakes etc.

CAD MODELING

A. Project
The Flare gun is designed on CATIA. CATIA is an acronym of computer aided three
dimensional interactive application. CATIA is a multi-platform software suite for computer
aided design (CAD), computer aided manufacturing (CAM), PLM AND 3D, developed by the
French company Dassault Systems. CATIA offers a solution to shape design, styling, surfacing
workflow and visualization to create, modify and validate complex innovative shapes. CATIA
enables the creation of 3D parts from 3D sketches, sheet metal, composites. CATIA can be
applied to a wide variety of industries, from aerospace and defense, automotive and industrial
equipment, to high tech, shipbuilding, and consumer goods.

CONCLUSION

In Mechanical prototyping we learnt how the working prototype is prepared under rapid
prototyping. We learnt about CAD software CATIA and also about the fusion 360 in which we

designed the 3D model of our protptype using cura software, and how to operate FDM for
printing the model.
