Light Up the Health Centre
The Castlegar and District Hospital
Foundation is gearing up for Lighting
Up the Health Centre, with its pledge
day coming up Friday, December 6. The
foundation is raising funds for Advanced
Respiratory Intervention Equipment (ven-
tilator) for the Emergency Department
with any additional funds raised applied
to areas of greatest need at the Castlegar
Health Centre and Talarico Place.
The Castlegar District and Commu-
nity Health Centre serves a population of
9000 in the Kootenay Boundary region.
Patients requiring advanced airway and
mechanical ventilation are stabilized in
the CDH emergency room while awaiting
transfer to higher level of care. Physicians
and nurses are tasked with providing
advanced respiratory interventions and
require equipment they can trust in order
to do their jobs with confidence. The
Hamilton C1 ventilator will be used to
provide noninvasive mask ventilation and
invasive ventilation via artificial airway
for patients who are experiencing respira-
tory failure. This ventilator is capable of
ventilating all age ranges from infant to
geriatric and has cutting edge alarm and
monitoring capability, replacing the pre-
vious ventilator, which due to much usage
is no longer functioning.
Sophisticated equipment is expensive
but worth the investment if it can help
those in our community. Your support is
needed! We’ll be at the lobby of the Cas-
tlegar Community Health Centre on 10th
Street on Friday, December 6 between 9
am and 2 pm. There will be refreshments,
door prizes, a silent auction, entertain-
ment and directors on hand to chat with.

for Community Grants. This is the eleventh year the club has
utilized funds generated from the investment in the Osprey
Community Foundation to help fund the club’s grant program.
Applications are accepted from the Lions Club of Nelson
membership area which is approximately defined as the
City of Nelson, North Shore, Harrop, Procter,
Balfour, Taghum and Beasley.
Only those organizations or individuals who can issue an
official donation receipt under the Federal Income Tax Act
are qualified to apply for the Lions Club of Nelson Commu-
nity Grants.
The Club will accept applications for grants until
November 30th, 2019.
