Performance Task
Students will create a digital book using either PowerPoint or Google Slides focusing on
a topic related to rain forests. Students will have the opportunity to choose their own topic
from a variety of options including, but not limited to:
Plants
Trees
Animals
Ecology
Environment
Scientists (specific people who study the rain forest)
Types of rain forests (or where they are located)
Problems in rain forests
Students must have their topics approved by Thursday, October 31. Once topics are
approved, they may begin gathering research for their topic. Unlike traditional research
projects, this project requires students to use a great deal of descriptive, narrative-like writing.
We have been reading a narrative, non-fiction text to help prepare for this task.
Requirements
Do not use animations, transitions, sounds, or videos in the slide show. These books will be
printed and none of those things will appear in the final product.
Though parents may help students with this project, it is imperative that these books be
authentic student products. Parents are encouraged to help with proof reading. However,
all work should be student created.
Students may help each other, but each student must turn in their own project.
Printing
Students must print their own projects, in full color, and turn it in as a finished project
on Friday, December 13. Please do not wait until the last minute to print this out. If there is an
extreme circumstance with printing, please let me know at least a week before the deadline.
Binding (Putting it together)
Students may use many methods to put their books together. Students may use a
folder, notebook, binder, or report cover. No construction paper, staples, or paper clips.
