Objectives Students will be able to…
1. Demonstrate an understanding of how the Cricut works,
be able to read the instructions, and complete a basic
cutout using the machine.

Duration 40 minutes
Materials 1. Paper (construction paper, cardstock, etc.)
2. Cricut machine
Instructional Strategies and 1. When students enter the library, welcome them and
Procedures direct them to the Makerspace tables on the right side of
the library.
2. Once students are settled at their seats, introduce
yourself and explain that you are the student teacher
school librarian and that today during lunch, we will be
learning how to use the Cricut machine.
3. Ask students if anyone has used the Cricut machine yet
or if they know how it works.
4. Tell students they can eat their lunch and talk. While
students are eating show them the 7 minute Cricut
tutorial and DIY on Youtube.
a. Discuss ways they can utilize the Cricut for
school assignments.
5. After about fifteen minutes start a demonstration of how
to use the Cricut.
a. First log on to the computer with the listed
username and password.
b. Show them how to open the app, then show how
to create a textbox. Type in a phrase and show
them how to change the text font and size.
c. Click on continue project and set up the paper on
the pad.
i. Make sure the dial is turned to the correct
paper setting (construction paper, felt,
cardstock, etc.)
d. Then click the blinking buttons in the
corresponding order to start the cut out.
e. If time allows, show them how to draw with the
machine.
6. After completing the demonstration, tell students they
can take turns creating something.
a. Have different colored paper available
7. Give students a five minute announcement before the
period is over so they can start cleaning up.
Assessment Students will watch a demonstration of how the Cricut works
and select a phrase to cut out on a piece of paper, cardstock,
felt, etc.
