A piece of
Johnson County history
Bank a fixture in local area
for more than a century

The roots of ANB Bank in Buffalo stretch back more
than a century in the Johnson County community.
And that’s a legacy current Community Bank
President Steve Reimann is proud of.
Founded March 31, 1906, as Wyoming Loan and
Trust Company, one of the earliest orders of business for
the institution was supporting the local agriculture com-
munity as one of the first banks in town.
“This was a local, community bank,” Reimann said.
“Its founders were local. It was formed locally.”
Those original founders included H.P. Rothwell, Burt
Griggs, F.G.S. Hesse, E.D. Metcalf, W.H. Edelman, W.J.
Thom and F.W. Daniels, names steeped in local histo-
ry. Other early families involved in the bank included
Hancocks and Kirvens, all “very prominent families,”
Reimann said.
“There was a store across the street, the New York
Store, and the Hancocks were involved in that,” he
said. “There’s a lot of history there.”
It was the age where agriculture was king in the
local community. And supporting those early produc-
ers was the stock-in-trade for local, community banks,
regardless of location.
“Talking about the roots of our bank, in that day
and age, in this area, any bank would have been an
agriculture bank.”
Reimann’s family history, too, goes back sev-
eral generations, including a great-grandfather
who served as a Justice of the Peace during the
Johnson County Cattle Wars. Three generations of
Reimanns owned and operated a small gas station
and auto repair service station not far from the
bank on Main Street in Buffalo.
