Unit

3: Crowdfunding Portfolio
The success of a crowdfunding project rests upon the creator’s successful
appeal to their audience. As such, this crowdfunding project is the culmination
of all of your hard work this semester learning and applying rhetorical tools to
your writing. There are two parts to this project: a crowdfunding video (group
project) and a corresponding narrative (individual project). Through this
project, you will learn the additional tools available in visual rhetoric, in
addition to screen writing, video editing, and composing a narrative.

Components
The Narrative
• Using your knowledge of rhetorical devices, write a persuasive narrative
for the intended audience of your TECH 120 final project. Remember, a
crowdfunding narrative is designed to go online. This not only means a
larger potential audience, but also that tools like hyperlinks are at your
disposal. Use them wisely!
• Length: 750 words
• Submission info: Submit your narratives in the designated Blackboard
folder by 11:59 pm on Friday, April 27th

The Video
• As a group, you and your team will create a video to promote your
crowdfunding campaign. Using your knowledge of visual rhetoric,
capture the audience’s attention, draw them in, and give them a basic
overview of your product. A successful video will make your viewers
want to know more about your campaign—that is, read the narratives
that will accompany your video. NOTE: This video must focus on the
solution your group is providing.
• Length: No more than 2 minutes
• Submission info: Email a link to your video (can be in Youtube, Dropbox,
etc.) by 11:59 on Thursday, April 19th

Outcomes
After completing both components of Unit 3, students will be able to:
• Demonstrate mastery of identifying the rhetorical situation, the intended
audience, and the best rhetorical strategies for the situation and audience
at hand.
• Expand their understanding of rhetoric to encompass the visual as well
as the textual.
• Apply their knowledge of writing technique to screen writing.
• Use video editing tools available to them on campus.

Note: Failure to turn in a full draft by the deadline or to follow assignment

deadlines will result in a 10% deduction to the final assignment grade.
