Debate Paper

The topic up for debate is vaccinating children, I personally believe in vaccinations and believe
people who do not vaccinate are absolutely insane. Working in the medical field for 3 years now I’ve seen
many poor children with illnesses that could’ve easily been avoided and unfortunately have ended in
death. For the purpose of this paper I will be writing from the Anti-Vaxxers side of this debate, hopefully
trying to make a connection to this madness.

Vaccinating your children should not be a world-wide requirement because of how many
chemicals that’re introduced into your child’s body. Just to name a few, thimerosal, aluminum,
formaldehyde, glutaraldehyde and many more have all been linked to numerous vaccinations. Not only
are these chemicals extremely harmful to the skin but somehow are allowed to be injected into the body.
It’s hard to believe that these big pharmaceutical companies are monitoring and regulating every vaccine
that’s sent out into the world to make sure there’s not too much of certain chemicals in ‘say’ vaccine.
Some vaccines contain ingredients that can cause severe anaphylaxis that can lead to death in certain
cases. Another huge issue with vaccinations is the harmful side effects due to the chemicals, autism,
neurological problems, and even death! A way to avoid some of these horrendous side effects could be
to just not vaccinate at all, natural immunity is good for anyone. If I don’t vaccinate my child, then there's
a chance my child wouldn’t die or contract autism.

Most of these diseases that we are told to vaccinate for have virtually disappeared from today’s
society. The last known death due to Smallpox was a three-year-old from Bangladesh in 1975, there has
been very few reported deaths since then (CDC, para 11). By 1967 Smallpox was essentially eliminated in
both North America and Europe (CDC, para 10).

Most parents who choose not to vaccinate feel that they aren’t given proper information for the
reasoning to vaccinate. About eighty one percent of parents said their child’s primary care provider was
one of the most important sources for information in their decision. Parents would like an opportunity to
just receive proper information on vaccines without feeling judged or attacked by medical personnel.
Because most medical professionals are pro-vaccination, they will tell you exactly how it is and will try to
push for vaccinations because of the statistics behind it.

A small but very valuable number of people choose not to vaccinate due to religious reasons.
These religions include but are not limited to, Shrivastava, Hindus, Muslim, and some forms of Catholicism.
Most of the reasoning behind the religion side is the ingredients in some of these vaccines are deemed
“banned” (for a lack of better words) and unsafe for these people who follow this reasoning against
vaccinations.

After viewing the other side to this debate, I do feel that I have a better sense of where these
people are coming from and why they choose not to vaccinate. After reading just some of the ingredients
that go into some of these immunizations it does sound quite scary that I’m having formaldehyde put into
my body but at the same token if you drink a Mountain Dew it has that ingredient in there as well. I’m
glad I researched this, and I don’t necessarily have such despise for these parents that choose to seek
more information for obvious reasons.
