Educational Technology

Concept of Educational Technology

1. Meaning: - The term ‘educational technology’ by splitting it we get –‘Education’ and


‘Technology’. Technology refers to the systemic application of techniques and
principles of science. ‘Education’ is the process of modification of behavior,
socialization, social efficiency, accumulation and all round development of human
personality.
2. Definition:- Richey defined –“ The study and ethical practice of facilitating learning
and improving performance by creating, using and managing appropriate
technological processes and resources”.
AECT denoted --“the Theory and practice of design, development, utilization,
management and education of processes ……………………’’
3. Objectives:-
a) Objectives of the Macro Level –
 To develop the appropriate aids and equipment to meet the educational
purpose.
 To develop a suitable curriculum with interaction of science.
 To help in extending educational opportunities to the masses especially the
neglected selection of the community.
 To manage the whole educational system covering planning implementation
and the evaluation phases.
b) Objectives at the Micro Level --
 To identify and analyze. The characteristics and educational needs of the
pupil.
 To identify the available teaching learning material and resources.
 To evaluate the effectiveness of the classroom teaching in terms of pupil’s
performance.
 To provide appropriate fee back of students.

Types of Educational Technology

 Information Technology: -
It is a new technology applied to the creation, storage, selection,
transformation and distribution of information.
 Communication Technology :-
It means the activity of designing and conducting and communication
system.
 Information and communication Technology :-
It is the mode of education hat use information and communication
technology to support, enhance and optimize the delivery.
 Instructional Technology :-
A student centered technology-dependent pedagogical approach. The
following outlines these types and the pedagogy.
1. Learning Management system
At their core, there make course material available electronically.
Students can engage almost exclusively through a web browser with
minimal effort, instructors.
2. Classroom devices
There are instructor aids – such as – CD players, document cameras, date
projectors etc. It minimizes the amermat of class time.
3. Instructional software
There are course specific application that aim to teach students
content/skills. Especially it is used in online, ‘blended’ courses, ‘flipped’
classes
Application is both interactive an adaptive.
