Food Truck Friday with DREAMS

Event

DREAMS is a nonprofit organization located in Wilmington, NC. The organization focuses on

providing children with free, high quality education specializing in literary, visual, multimedia

and performing arts. As I begin to work with this organization, I have decided to plan a Food

Truck Friday event on Friday, August 2. This event will be located at an open venue in

downtown Wilmington. There will be multiple local food trucks, along with lots of space for

families and individuals to walk around and enjoy themselves. The event will take place from 7

pm to 9 pm. This in in order to target a family friendly audience for the event. There will be

many different food options for the evening, with intentions to please everyone. There will also

be performances in the selected area by students from DREAMS. I plan to reach out to different

food trucks as well as venue owners to ensure the location and catering options. I will also reach

out to the students of DREAMS to make sure they are prepared for multiple performances for the

night.

Social Media

While promoting this event, I will create an Instagram page and a Facebook page. I will use the

Instagram page to follow and gain followers that might be interested in the organization. I will

also use Instagram to keep followers up to date on the event as well as to get them excited prior
to the evening planned. The Facebook page will be used mainly to create an “event.” This tool

on Facebook allows you to make an event and invite as many people as you want. It also allows

for people invited to answer if they are interested in going, not interested, or if theymay be

interested.

Promotional Artifacts

The two artifacts that I selected for this event are a social media post for Facebook and Instagram

as well as a flyer that could be passed around the Wilmington area. I used Canva to create both

of my promotional artifacts. I have had experience with this program before and found it

enjoyable to create these two specific artifacts. I used very trendy colors on both of the artifacts,

that give off a very fun, hip, clean vibe. I feel that this is the message that I am trying to portray.

I want individuals to see the post or flyer and have their attention grabbed by the aesthetically

pleasing features. Both of the artifacts contain pictures provided by the program that have to do

with Food Trucks. I also tried to keep the writing short and simple. This is due to the fact that

the images must be easy to read and straight to the point.

Target Audience

The target audience for this event, is local families in the Wilmington area. The idea of the event

is to raise awareness of the organization and gain support from the locals of the area. The age

will range from 18-35. This is due to the fact that the event will be fun for young adults in ways

such as live entertainment and food. Although the organization is for children going through
school, the target demographic will be young parents that have the ability to make decisions for

their young kinds. The educational status of the event would have past educational experience.

Reflection

This event has been extremely fun to create and think about. I feel that the event is for a good

cause and is extremely relatable to many people especially in the Wilmington area. The idea

strikes me in a way that it would be an event that I would like to attend and is something that all

ages would enjoy. I feel that this specific event would be very beneficial to the organization in

reality, due to the fact that it will attract like-minded, similar aged people. It will also raise

awareness for the organization. When doing research on the organization, it seems that the main

need is for attention and awareness. This event will be able to do just that! It seems that it will

also be enjoyable and for a good cause at the same time. I do not feel that this event would be

too hard to pull off due to the fact that it just requires a decent space. Also, the event is

something that locals love to attend, I feel that it would not be difficult to encourage individuals

and their families to attend. Through the process of arranging this event on paper, I feel that it

would be a great success!
