Rationale

I am expecting to gain knowledge and skills in my PPCE setting to add to my teaching tools already
gathered thus far in my studies. Develop my pedagogical repertoire, and apply my relevant
strategies, methodology and knowledge in a practical setting. Develop my communication and
teaching skills with students and teachers, improving and perfecting my teaching and
communication skills to becoming a competent teacher in the future.

As with any placement, prior knowledge of the setting is helpful, but with the skills and knowledge
acquired thus far in my experience, entering a new placement is a smoother process than it was in
my first placement. I have learnt many tools and skills, and developed my personal teaching flaws to
improve, and become a better teacher for the future.

I am hoping to learn and apply creative and critical problem-solving skills in an interdependently and
independent setting. This will help develop innovative and robust solutions to teaching and learning
problems and issues. From this setting, I hope to develop my student and teacher engagement, as
well as communication skills and methods. I want to demonstrate good communication skills and the
ability to work effectively and contribute as part of a team of educators. In this setting I hope to
incorporate knowledge, understandings and skills relevant to teaching and learning in traditional and
non-traditional educational settings.

I hope to offer my extensive knowledge and skill set to the participants in my service-learning
project. I have many years of experience and a broad range of skills and knowledge in Industrial
design, Engineering, Fabrication and Mathematics. I hope to offer this to my students and teachers I
will work with in PPCE, as wells as develop my skills and knowledge from them and their knowledge
and skill set. For we as teachers are still students of life, and we must always be learning as we
teach.

I hope these experiences in PPCE shape my pedagogical approach in a positive way, I hope it will not
only improve my teaching skills and knowledge but inspire me to become a better teacher and
educator. As a student teacher nearing the end of my masters of secondary teaching, I am having
the opportunities to implement my knowledge and skills gathered so far and innovate and improve
these with placement. This ill help myself become ready to teach when I exit University and enter my
teaching career.

Being a teacher, it is our purpose to help others learn what we discover and have learnt. However,
not everybody learns in the same way, and as teachers we must cater our teaching styles, and our
pedagogical approaches to the individuals we are teaching. I wanted to become a teacher to help
improve the generations of students, and possible teachers to come, and improve society for the
future. Though I may be one person, I will become an educator, a mentor, and an inspiration to my
students, and aim to prepare them for what ever career they would like once they have left their
educational institute. My future students will be in a place of overwhelming opportunities, and I will
offer my knowledge and skills, guide them in preparing for the rest of their lives.
