Relevance:

Human Resource Management (HRM) is a function within an organization

concentrated on recruiting, managing and directing people who work in it. HRM deals with

issues related to compensation, performance management, organization development,

safety, wellness, benefits, employee motivation, training and others. HRM plays a

strategic role in managing people and the workplace culture and environment. If effective,

it can contribute greatly to the overall company direction and the accomplishment of its

goals and objectives.

Since firm performance stands and remains as one the main objectives of any

company, management should understand the relationship between human resources

practices and firm performance. A company can achieve a competitive advantage and

reach its goals by adopting an efficient usage of its personnel. Companies having long

term objectives of sustained competitive advantage and high profitability should enhance

their human capital through putting in place systems and practices as tools to attain those

goals.
